Good luck to you in getting the cell phone tower. You may recall a similar thread about my Grandpa Martin and his continual musings about the "cell foam tower" coming to Sugarloaf. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face as I recall the stories about his beloved Confluence!

No it's not the tower and won't be until we are victorious at the meeting on Nov 2 7pm we need a big showing at this meeting in support of it or it may not ever happen
The 'show of support at the meeting' stinks! Many of us that sent letters in support to the Hardware Store (to be given to the Verizon rep)simply can not be at the meeting. We don't live in the area anymore but DO have family & friends in the Confluence area and we realize that there is a need for the tower. I hope every fireman and ambulance person and every local bike/hiking trail person is AWARE of this meeting and goes to it. Possibly put a letter in the Somerset Daily American newspaper so the ones that do not read this forum is made aware of the meeting. |

Your letters will be referenced at the meeting as will all other documents in support. The call for people to come to the meeting is for people in the area, but this post is to let everyone know what is going on.
Anyone in the local area should attend if they can. |

Remember that there is a meeting next Monday, November 2nd, 7:00 pm,@ the Henry Clay Municipal Building. A shuttle bus will leaving from the Immersion Research Building, the old High School at the east end of the Rt 281 Casselman River Bridge. Check the posters in town for the time.
The meeting will address the question of installing a cell phone tower on property owned by Color Wear just west of Confluence. The tower plans have been changed to meet all Henry Clay Township regulations. The only opposition is that it would be unsightly. It is very important that all voices are heard. The letters sent earlier will be presented. New letters to the Henry Clay Township supervisors would help. However, people attending the meeting would be the most helpful. If you, or someone you know, is in the Confluence, Ursina, Harnedsville, Addison area please take the time to attend. |

Here is an editorial from the Daily American, Somerset.
---------- Thursday, October 29, 2009 7:02 PM EDT Cell phones have become a modern convenience that most people expect to be available. However if you live in southern Somerset County, cell phone service is rarely available. Emergency services officials as well as the residents and thousands of visitors who use the Great Allegheny Passage and the Youghiogheny Reservoir all have expressed a need for cell phone signals. Fortunately, Verizon has scheduled a public meeting for 7 p.m. Monday to discuss installing a cell tower near Confluence. The meeting will be held in the Henry Clay Township Municipal Building in neighboring Fayette County. The meeting should have a large attendance as cell phone service needs to be a basic service in all communities. From having an emergency along the roadway or hiking trail, to making calls to friends and family, cell phone coverage is something that needs to be available across Somerset County. Mobile phone companies need to install more towers in our region as soon as possible. |

The Thursday, October 29, 2009 Daily American has a nice article on the front page headlined:
"Responders: Cell phone ‘dead zone’ risking lives." The article begins: "People having medical emergencies on the Great Allegheny Passage in Confluence or on the Youghiogheny Lake or surrounding rivers often find that their cell phones don’t work. “It’s created a lot of distressful situations,” said Ron Hostetler, assistant fire chief and president of the ambulance association in Confluence.“I realize the world has survived without cell phones for many years, but this is the 21st century.” " Read the full article by clinking on the link below: http://dailyamerican.com/articles/2009/10/29/... |

BUILD IT, and they will come
Everyone needs to "come" to the meeting so it will be "built". |
GOOD one!!! and OH SO TRUE!!! I hope that the meeting room will be so full that it will be standing room only. In support, of course, of the cellular tower. |
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make the meeting...how did it go?
YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS SSSSSSSSSS!!! I don't know the details yet..but according to the news on WQZS/Meyersdale this morning..and it's to be in the Daily American Somerset Newspaper.. the tower was PRELIMINARY APPROVED! The landowner that was not in favor of it and Verizon worked together to come to an agreement. AND Verizon has considered this a PRIORITY site. The meeting hall was filled..and a standing ovation was made when the announcement was made. I am not aware of more than what was on the news..but I'm sure someone on this forum will fill us in!!! THANK YOU. |

Tuesday's Daily American article on Monday night's cell phone tower meeting is headlined:
"Cell phone tower receives resounding support" The article begins, "A public hearing held by the Henry Clay Township zoning board Monday was capped by a somewhat unusual scene: a standing ovation. More than 50 residents from Somerset and Fayette counties packed the township’s municipal meeting and responded with applause as officials gave preliminary approval for Verizon to build a new cell phone tower on a hilltop less than a mile west of Confluence." This is Great news!

Yippee! I couldn't make it to the meeting either. But I'm so so so glad that there was a good turnout. Commissioner Mr. John Vatavuk was there, so I read in the paper. THANK YOU MR. VATAVUK! for spending your evening in Henry Clay Township supporting us in Confluence. Mr. Vatavuk mentioned when he was running for office that he was going to try to help get cell phone coverage in the Confluence area and he stood up to his word and attended the meeting and helped, I suppose, in other ways. I'll be sending him a letter of thanks too.
And thank you to ALL of the folks for their letters, signatures and for spreading the word about the need for cellphone coverage in the Confluence area. NOW then.. Has there been any word on when the tower will get started?????????? A cell phone for our relatives in Confluence would be part of a nice Christmas gift. |

QUESTION: When we get the tower, is it possible to do away with my landline but yet keep my DSL that I have thru verizon? It sure would be nice to eliminate a phone bill.
I know that some companies will allow you to do that but others will not...greedy jerks...but I'm not sure if Verizon will allow you to have DSL and not charge you for a landline phone. But as for whether it's possible...yes it is. It just depends on the company's 'policies'.
I can tell you this though, I will be one angry person if they make me pay for a landline when they're already taking my money for a cell phone and DSL! I'm already paying for all 3 even though my cell phone doesn't work here =/ |

I just went to the verizon website and found out that you do not need a landline to have DSL. The one plan that I have is a prepaid plan through Walmart...they use the Verizon towers. You buy your phone then it is like $48 a month with taxes for unlimited talk, text and web. I have been using it for a few weeks and so far I am pretty happy with it. |
