Verizon Wireless wants to install a cellular tower in the Confluence, Pa area. They have already tested the location, surveyed the location, engineering drawings have been completed, and contracts signed. This location is 1 mile south of Confluence on 281 known as the Color Wear Business property.

There has been a complaint filed concerning the installation of the tower. A property owner does not want to view the tower from their property.

A hearing on this matter will be held on Oct. 5th. We are asking that you write a simple letter stating the need for improved cell phone service in the Confluence area. If you would bring your letter to the Confluence Hardware store by Oct. 4th I will get it to the Verizon Wireless representative prior to the hearing.

Here is a sample letter you are welcome to use.

Address your letter to : Joe Krill Verizon Wireless

Dear Mr. Krill:

I am writing to express my full support for the Verizon cellular tower to be installed on the Color Wear property in Confluence, PA.

I understand that some in our community have voiced concern over the location of this cellular tower. However, I am one of thousands who have signed petitions to get a cellular tower installed to assist in local communications.

Our location has unique tourist attractions such as the Great Allegheny Passage and the Youghiogheny River Lake which draws large quantities of tourists who bike, boat, fish, hunt and explore the area. Currently no cellular communication exists to assist in case of an emergency. Public safety is an issue.

I think this is an important addition to the area which will greatly benefit the emergency response for tourists and the community. I ask that you allow the cellular tower installation to proceed on the Color Wear property.

Thank you for your consideration

Sincerely,
Turkeyfooter

I will not be able to drop a letter at the Confluence Hardware Store but will get a letter of SUPPORT in the mail yet this week to the Confluence Hardware Store with a notation on the envelope that it is regarding the Cell Phone Tower.

I have the Confluence Hardware Store address from the telephone book as:

Confluence True Value Hardware Store
484 Hugart Street
Confluence PA 15424

COME ON folks.. for emergency reasons we need this tower. DO NOT let the people not wanting to view the tower WIN on this. It's not a luxury reason, it's critical and necessary.

For the cost of a stamp.. write a letter of support and let this kind person deliver it to the meeting for us. If you can.. get more for the cost of your stamp by getting more letters and sending them in one envelope (might take 2 stamps..but heck!)

First of all, "THANK YOU" Cnflunc Kid for graciously volunteering to get these letters of support to the Verizon Wireless Representative!!You are a saint for doing this... My letter will be in the mail today, but will take a while to get to the Confluence Hardware.
THANK YOU also to Turkeyfooter for giving us the address of the Hardware (makes my job a LOT easier).
And to you who are opposing this cell phone tower, I pray that YOU or YOUR family never have to rely on a cell phone to save your/their lives!!!
I would gladly view the tower from my property knowing how much it would benefit myself and the people in the area, than oppose it. I ask that you look "selflessly" into this matter, as a benefit to the community and not an "inconvenience" for yourself.

Now I'm confused. In your original post you mentioned that if a letter were dropped off at the Confluence Hardware that you'd pass it along to the representative before the meeting. If you aren't 'collecting' them, then how is the rep. going to get them?

I'm glad, as well, that you passed the message along. The message should, in fact, be put in the letter to the editor part of the newspaper so people can write letters to support this tower project and send them to the hardware store so they can get passed along to the representative from Verizon, Mr. Krill.

I've personally needed to use a cell phone in the Confluence area, and for an emergency purpose. I had to drive all the way back to a relatives house and call for help.

We need this tower. No, they're not pretty, but neither is a dead person laying there on the bike/hike trail because they couldn't call for help and weren't near a regular phone.

Thank you for your post to let us know that the letters will be passed on to the Verizon Rep., Mr. Krill. My *support* letter will be in the mail to the hardware store. I can't be sure of getting to Confluence before Oct. 5th.

Uh-oh, I'm sending the ones I have and I'm sure they won't be there by Wednesday the 30th of September.

In the first posting that got this letter writing going it made mention of the letters having to get to the hardware store by the 4th of October. I know mine will get there by the 4th cause when I send birthday(etc.) cards to my relatives in Confluence, it takes about 4 or 5 days to get there.

THANK you, Reader!! For your efforts in getting all the letters and signatures and taking them to the hardware store. May you be blessed for your goodness.

That would be a good question to ask the Verizon Rep. I also was wondering about the range of it.

I hope the Turkeyfoot School is prepared for the kids coming to school now, with cellphones that will get a signal. That is if the signal will go to Harnedsville.

Best thing for them to do is to stop it before it starts, by putting rules in place NOW about bringing and using the cell phones in the school.

The tower will be on property owned by Color Wear over looking all of Confluence. The signal is strongest when there is direct line-of-sight with the tower. That should include Ursina to about the Laurel Hill Creek Bridge, downstream on the Yough to Ramcat or Mile 64 on the bike trail, upstream on the Casselman to the Casselman Bridge about Mile 59 on the bike trail, the downstream end of Yough Lake and maybe to the Rt 40 Bridge but with dead spots in the northern coves, and west to Johnson Church and the summit of Laurel Ridge.

However, this is speculation. We won't know until the tower is operating and right now we need to get letters to Confluence Hardware to make sure it is built.

Please, all readers who have mentioned on this and on other previous posts that we NEED cell service in Cofluence and on the trail, make sure to make your voices heard. This does not mean that we will become a town of folks on blackberries at every corner - this is a necessity for business and for progress as well as for emergency calls. Sign the letter appearing in the first post and make sure to get it in on time. Nobody likes towers on mountains, but being totally left behind is not the way to go. Don't count on others to do this - sign the letter and get it to the Hardware Store

I agree with 'hello'! Don't count on others to do all of the support letter writing for the cell phone tower.

Get your friends and neighbors to write a little letter or even use the pre-written support letter in the first posting!

Even if you tweek it a little bit and put in some personal experiences of how a cell phone WOULD have helped, if you were able to get a signal.

Tell Mr. Krill of Verizon how you could have used a cell phone for an emergency or how you may have needed to get a signal to use for a business call. I can only think of ONE (if it is still there) pay phone in Confluence so even counting on a pay phone can't be certain if someone would need to make a business call back to their office.

Please, use the letter provided or write one of your own to show that we need this tower.

Thanks to all for your support! WE are a small town, but WE CAN DO THIS!

Hey Folks! I was passing through Confluence on Monday and followed some trucks hauling pieces of 'stuff'. Some of the trucks were marked with 'oversized load' banners.

They turned off and went up across the Casselman River bridge and on up MaeWest Road. I went on toward Rte40 at the 'Y' on my way to Maryland so I didn't see where they may have been going after they went onto MaeWest Road.

COULD this be 'our' cellphone tower!!!!!!!!!! or maybe a gas drilling rig.

Also, does anyone know the approx. amount of letters that arrived at the Hardware Store about the cellphone tower?

I Hope.. I Hope.. I hope this 'stuff' is for the tower!!!

There were around 90 letters. In addition a petition had another 100+ signatures.

There were two problems with the location but both have been solved and the tower as proposed now meets all regulations.

There is another very important meeting. It is November 2nd, 7:00 pm, Henry Clay Township Municipal Building (just off Rt 40). As many people as possible need to be there to voice their support.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Cancer

Be careful today Cancer, because your emotions could cloud certain issues as they often to and leave you feeling confused. You should be especially wary of believing what you want to believe, rather than believing the evidence in front of your eyes. It's easy to kid yourself now about someone's motives or reliability, even if deep down you know that you're telling yourself a load of old twaddle.
