I don't understand all the fire co. bashing on these boards. I'm sure you wouldn't turn them away when your house is on fire.

If everyone made a donation to their local fire dept, it wouldn't have to come to this.

While I understand that $50 may not seem like a lot of money, it is the combination of all of these little fees that make a huge difference. If we keep allowing more taxes to be added, it will add up to a large number in the end and one that we just can't afford.

who's the idiots ? 3 companies are closed for business and it's all financial misdeeds. You all shot yourself in the foot so why would anyone want to give you money voluntarily for you to make your car payment instead of purchasing that vital piece of equipment you always claim you need ?

Now, maybe you all understand my comments several months ago. I live in Mt. Joy township and we have had a fire tax since 2008. Our current board of supervisors worked out a deal with our 4 fire companies. I hope yours can to. When I let my feelings known I was bashed and people said they hoped my house caught on fire and no one came. I am not against fire co. but we are being taxed right out of our homes. Thank you.

Stop merging with other agencies--to save legal costs. Stop buying expensive trucks for Parades. Train your trainers and save more money instead of paying mileage and associated costs for trips to Lewistown and elsewhere. Turn off all lights and the a?c and heat when not needed. The trucks will start just the same. Bill the Insurance companies as allowed under state law. Enforce code violations. Or, become a leader and pursue County operations.

Who's laying their life on the line? Hopefully all the costly training is still covering the orders of the on-scene officer. STAY ON THE TRUCK UNTIL TOLD OTHERWISE. Every ,line of duty related death was due to failing to follow orders. I did my 30 years and now see the same old crap as before the 1980's. Everybody just jumps off the apparatus and charges in. To curtail that issue, all we see now is green vested firefighters -still jumping off trucks There's not one community that gets this lashing. If you're that stupid to endanger your own life..well ???

Well as we all know,,or should know,, those boys have to have the best of everything. Its got to have chrome bumpers & wheels or it just won't work! These volunteer fire companies have to have new,, no hand me downs, theirs no way they could funtion without all those FANCY TOYS,, i guess if they could buy a firetruck that was all chrome from one end to the other, from top to bottom,,they would just have to have it! They need to tighten their belts like everyone else,,and only spend money on whats really needed! Not just a shiny toy to show off!!Go into the city & look at their equipment,, they don't have near as much chrome, but their machines do the same job and cost less money!!

Face it. The days of the "free service" are quickly coming to an end. Fire Departments should not have to raise money to serve the community. The fact that they are volunteers is a huge cost savings.
As for a "chrome firetruck"..........Well, look at the costs associated with a chrome bumper vs a painted bumper. You will see that chrome is much cheaper.
As for the "city" fire trucks....Sure they are functional. However those units are staffed, and the units coming to back them up are staffed. They dont need to have one multi functional firetruck, because they have another associated function within another firetruck. They also have dedicated apparatus repair facilities. They also have reserve apparatus to supplement any broken down fire equipment.

The budget is 1.2 million dollars. I have no idea how it can possibly be that high, but that is the number provided. They are looking at trying to get $245,500. That means the fire department is going to some how raise almost $1,000,000 on thier own. It doesnt sound like much if you look at it that way, at least not to me.

Why not have all the municipalities affected create a "commission" or "committee" to oversee these funds. Citizens from each municipality can sit on the board. Then, the money generated from the tax can be forwarded to pay for needed expenses. Fuel, utilities, apparatus payments, NEEDED facility upgrades, etc. Then, you take the power away from the fire department, and have a better chance at ensuring that it does not get spent carelessly. It works elsewhere, and can work here too.

For the record, I am a member of the fire department listed in the article, but I am in no way active in the department.

Increasing taxation won't get rid of the chip on your shoulder wannabe doctor. Presumably, we "get up at 2 in the morning to lay [our] life on the line for others" because we chose to volunteer to do so, correct?

Does the good doctor trust that the government will properly allocate the new taxes that you want to pay? Because, after all, governments have a stellar track record for properly appropriating taxes in a responsible way.

What on earth makes you call someone an "idiot" simply because they object to paying more taxes? Whether he/she does or does not "get up at 2 in the morning to lay their life on the line for others" is irrelevant to the issue, and they still have the right to object to being taxed. That doesn't make them an idiot. They did not say that equipment and or personnel are not essential. They did not say that equipment and personnel should not be paid for; they simply objected to ANOTHER tax to pay for it all. That is not idiocy.

An idiot is someone who acts in a self-defeating or significantly counterproductive way. This is the way you are responding there oh good doctor. Your response seeks to silence those you want to class as idiots, when in fact you are defeating your own objective. THAT, doc, is idiocy.

What prescription would you write? Huh, doc? Another tax?
