I think the hi guy is a real jerk. I once overheard him telling a blind homeless man, "Maybe if you pray hard enough God will give you your sight back." Not only a nutjob, but completely insensitive.

Leave it to Schmich to measure spring by the appearance of a gay guy.

The Hi Guy sucks...ditto dat. He's just an eccentric that found a gimmick. Now, talk about Vince (Pimp Suit) or Yanni (Walking Dude) and there you'll have real local Chicago "celebrities". I'd rather hear about them.

Glad to read that I'm not the only one who found this article boring. Really one of the headlines on the front page. Really.

The Hi Guy was out sweeping up the lakefront trail last week where sand drifts had blown across the trail. They had been there for weeks and the park district had not touched them. I guess Hi Guy was doing the walkers, runners and bikers a favor so they could enjoy spring on the trail without wading through Sahara-like sand drifts.

It's interesting that the critics all hail from the suburbs. You think this column was boring? How about the places where you all live your lives? Total snooze.

How come Chicagoans feel so threatened? Always saying they are better than the suburbs, always comparing Chicago to New York, complaining that LA is now the number 2 city, etc. Why so insecure?

He's not about others, he's about bringing attention to himself. I say hello to everybody I pass on my walks; where's MY news story?:D

The Hi Guy is on the lakefront path all year long. I saw him out there in January when the temperature was in the single digits.

Article is lame and should have ended after the 4 "paragraph". But the Hi-Guy rocks!

Blame where he lives on his poor articles? That's great analysis. You're probably one of those who would say he's a bad writer unless he's at least 6'2".

If only more folks were as civic-minded as Hi Guy. As Justin notes, above, Hi Guy swept the dunes off the bike path. I saw him this morning while I was riding my bike to work and I thanked him. He was finishing up putting a patch into a big hole in the path at the Oak Street curve.

To those who put him down, we should all do as many nice things for others as Hi Guy does. The city and the world would be a much better place.
