Knowing parents as I do, and judging by how many parents can't kick out their 30yearold children, I will say this: Parental love is like no other. Parents would rather suffer than have their child suffer. Parents will willingly give up their lives so their children will live. This is universal.

So for a *parent* to write off his own kid at the tender age of 18, rather than do everything in his power to get her help and to work with her, to me, that means something creepy is going on. THat parent cares more about himself than his own child.

And what's this teaching his son? That if he fucks up dad is done with him forever?
