I guess that two years in the Senate is enough for a life pension. For the value he brings, he could have stayed one day and returned to polishing his tombstone.

Well of course he's not. He just wanted the position so he could retire and get the Senator's pension. What a loser.

Burris epitomizes the crud of corruption emanating from Chicago politics - I have learned a lot about Chicago - from Obama, Blagojevich, and Burris (aka the good, bad and the ugly!).
Burris is, of course, a perfect icon of a crooked politician, mired in greed and materialistic values!

Good! And now the people of IL will get to consent on whom represents them in the US Senate - and this compromised idiot can go back to admiring his tombstone.

He didn't serve long enough for a Senate pension. Members of Congress are eligible for a pension at age 62 if they have completed at least five years of service, at age 50 if they have completed 20 years, or at any age after completing 25 years.

"Senate Democrats have a strong desire to keep the seat..."

Oh, come on, this is Illinois: unless the Democratic candidate is grievously flawed, his or her election is a done deal.

It's no surprise he won't run ... Burris is like 0-20 in running for any office. He relies on appointments from cronies.

Don't presume to know everything about Chicago from it's politics. It is much more than that and beats the pants off of a lot of other cities despite some flaws

You're an idiot. He won elections for comptroller and sec of state and was good and effective in both offices. It was a shame to see he so wanted to further his ego that he groveled to a slime like Blago for this appointment.

Goodbye Burris, the last word in your epitaph is now charlatan. You are a disgrace to politics and I hope you enjoy your senator pension you greedy piece of trash. You are a disgrace and will always be remembered for this. You've tarnished your name and shown who you really are. Enjoy the spoils of your filthy career, dirt bag.

A lame duck appointed by a dead duck.

That roster of Dems thinking about running hardly instills confidence.

Of course he won't.

He wouldn't survive a primary. And if he survived a primary, 2010 is looking REALLY bad for democrats.

Even in the corrupt state of Illinois. Lisa Madigan saw the handwriting on the wall also. SHE didn't want to run for anything in 2010, either.

That seat is in danger.

LOTS of Senate seats for dems are in danger. Dodd, Burris, Reid, Specter, and the Ohio dem poll lead for senate seat has EVAPORATED.

Independents now favor the GOP by 2 to 1 margin.

The GOP is favored over the dems now on 8 of the 10 major issues facing the nation, INCLUDING the economy, they lead for the second straight month.

The GOP has narrowed the gap on HEALTH CARE to 4 from a dem lead of 18 points in May.

The nation just doesn't like what Pelosi and Obama are doing.

The independents are P*SSED. Expanding the federal government and watching them p*ss money down a rat hole of goverment fraud and abuse isn't what they wanted.

THAT'S why Burris isn't going to bother to run. He wouldn't survive a primary, and would DEFINATELY tank in a general.

2010 is going to really suck for democrats.

Combined with the benefits he has accrued in politics Burris will live a very comfortable life and should probably start a new career selling plots at the Burr Oak Cemetery. He talks fast enough to be a successful salesman.

I always enjoy finding the weak spots in articles.

In this case, the writers could stop at the first sentence.

Sen. Burris legacy was NOT weakened by accepting the appointment of the reknown Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Seriously, ten years from now would ANYONE out there even remember Roland Burris if he had NOT accepted the seat?

The answer is clearly, "Hell NO!"

To assume that by accepting the seat Burris did something wrong is outright foolish. Who, but the citizens of the state of Illinois, would have been hurt by NOT accepting the seat? Blagojevich? Please. Let's grow up and get serious.

The state of MN just went through a seven month vote count. That didn't help them; and not accepting the seat would NOT have helped Illinois.

Too bad Rollie didn't make the same decision back in January when he accepted the appointment, he would have save some semblance of dignity. Now he's forever linked - & will always be mentioned in the sentence with a soon to be convicted loonie.
