Ladies, put away your breasts, please!

So says Facebook, which has been removing breast-feeding photos from member pages, arguing they violate its decency policy.

Moms—and some dads—are striking back, launching a full-frontal attack on the Palo Alto-based social networking giant.

I agree that breast feeding is a wonderful act of nature and that it is best for baby. I am a mother of 4 and I breast fed 2 of my babies and I am convinced that my children that were breast fed were healthier and had less colds than the 2 that were not..... HOWEVER... I just don't understand why this has to be such a problem. If we were in public and I had to breast feed - I did it with a light blanket draped over myself for privacy and didn't have to show my boobs to the world. No big deal. Problem solved....most of the time most people didn't even know I was nursing......there. No controversy

Maybe the women (and men) who believe the pix are fine on Facebook should create their own site. Facebook has a right to regulate its content.

However, if it's going to be NO breastfeeding pix, it should be NO across the board, not a qualified NO (whether or not an arreola be seen is lame).

Sexual intercourse is natural, too. Would they want pix of that posted - even if no genitalia were showing?

Maybe it's a stretch, but I'm going on the hunch that the same women who want to call the breastfeeding pix "ok" for posting are the same ones who find the look of pregnancy appealing.

Women who think their pregnant, bulging bellies are beautiful should take every advantage of preserving those images. But please, as far as sharing, realize that the image isn't beautiful to everyone. People have a right not to be assaulted with images they don't wish to see.

ok so what about the 15 & 16 y.o girls who are posting pictures of themselves baring all? That's certainly ok. But a decent picture of a mother breast feeding.... oh no. That's indecency????

C'mon facebook. Get with reality.

If you want to post pictures of your children on your Facebook page so that others can delight in their beauty, then why would you show a picture of them breastfeeding where your breast is the thing most visible. I think these pictures are being posted by women who are exhibitionists at heart. If you want to flash your breasts, go to New Orleans and at least get some cheap beads for your trouble.

Why on earth would anyone even want to post a picture of themselves breastfeeding? So...you breast feed your baby..... good for you..... but does the rest of the world really have to see it or really care???

Personally I don't care if women breastfeed in public or not. However, my big question is: WHY would you want to post pictures of yourself breastfeeding? Just like my question about breastfeeding in public is WHY would you want to expose yourself? I understand that breastfeeding is completely natural, but do you just stop caring at all once you give birth? I'm not offended by it, but I'd think that mothers still have some modesty. I've seen plenty of mothers breastfeed in public without whipping out a naked breast, so it IS possible.

And I think people complaining about Facebook just means that they need something to complain about. Facebook isn't saying that breastfeeding is wrong, they're just saying that they don't want that content posted on their site. It's a free site, so it's not like anyone's getting ripped off.

Everyone just freaking relax.

If there ARE pics on Facebook of semi-naked teenagers, then I'm sure that those are getting pulled, too. None of this "that's certainly okay" junk that you're claiming.

There is nothing more beautiful than the belly of a woman big and blooming with the potential yet to be.
As long as I see these pregnant women tottering with their bellies big I rest easy and comfortable and remember when too was just a step away from the mysteries of God's designs in allowing we females to take part in being co-creators of life to be.

I wholeheartedly support breast feeding. My wife breastfed both our children. And I'm as far removed from a prude as is possible. But I'm uncomfortable when I see breastfeeding in public. It's a natural and beautiful part of childcare...a private moment to be shared by the mother and child. As such an intimate, private act, I would expect parents to demonstrate the appropriate level of respect for the act and KEEP IT PRIVATE!! As has been mentioned in other posts...coitus is natural, urination is natural...does that mean it's okay for those acts to take place in public? If I masturbate with a towel over my lap is that acceptable? I realize there is no sexual connotation to breastfeeding...but my point is that many acts are natural. They doesn't mean it's polite to share them with others.

I don't need/want to see photos of people feeding their babies. Nor do I need to see this when I'm in a restaurant, library, or anywhere else in public.

I don't have kids and don't really wish too. But if I did (the psychic did say an unplanned pregnancy was in my future) I wouldn't attach him to my chest in public. For the whiny parents who say "its natural!" I say Phooey. Its natural for me to walk my dog too, but if I brought him into a cafe, I can guaruntee the place would be up in arms. Just because you have kids doesn't make you better than the rest of us.

Newsflash: Breasts are FOR BREASTFEEDING. That's why women have them. The fact that they've been turned into sexual objects is a side issue. I've seen much more disturbing photos on Facebook than those that involve a rogue areola, and FB isn't pulling those. Funny that it's a man at FB who is making the "decency" decisions on this issue.

"Side issue"?!? that "side issue" is part of what got the woman pregnant in the first place, lady. And the fact that breasts are for breastfeeding doesn't give anyone the right to engage in that behavior around others who might not be so comfortable with the situation. If I can't light up my smoke around you, you can't pull out your boobs in front of me!

If you dont want to look at breasts or anything else then dont look at it. Why are you looking for those images on the net any way if they offend you. HHHUUUMMM I dont get it.You dont want cancer than dont smoke. Its that simple.
I just dont get it......

I am currently breastfeeding my third child, and this is what I have to say to these people: get a life! Why does everything have to be such a big deal? Post your breastfeeding pictures on your own sites!
