Chicago school to march in Pride Parade

Okay, Sam, do the kids who march in any other parades really understand what they're all about? No, all they know is it's something to celebrate. And isn't that really what it's all about?

Though I do promote the tolerance and understanding of pride activities, the school has to approve its own participation. I am queer but believe your opinion is rational. Students who wish to participate and are under 17 should have consent from parents and give consent themselves as with any other activity. Other activities should be provided in place for students who do not wish to participate. However schools do have the right to allow LGBTQQI students and their allies to participate. Rights should not be taken away from either group.

CHILDREN should never be penalized for the choices they make or for the parents who love them. BELIEVE ME that there are a lot of LGBTQQI students attending Rogers Park schools who face harassment? What if your child were one of the nearby children who committed suicide for such hatred. Do you all want to be responsible for teaching your children such hatred to possibly lead to the death of an innocent child? I hope you can live with that. I hope you can sleep at night knowing children not far from us have committed suicide from harassment. How could any god bless you for teaching hatred and causing torment and even death to a child?

I am thrilled that we live in a progressive, socialist era when such freedom of expression and diversity are possible! I hope that these young ones leave the event with the understanding that freedom of sexual expression is a great thing and there are no better role models for them the Chicago LGBT community! YES WE CAN!

The hate spread in the name of Christianity contributes to the suicides, assaults, rapes, and yes, murders, of gay people in the US, and other countries.
Stop thinking that this is an attack on Christianity. It just so happens that Christianity is dominant in the US, and often leads the way with protests against gay people.

I dunno, I'm all for gay rights, even gay marriage, but I can imagine a school in Mississippi participating in something conservative that would make me upset. Or imagine a Jewish parent seeing their kids' school take part of a pro-Palestinian rally (or vice-versa). I kinda want my government to stay neutral

I think that public schools should keep out of political events. A school should not decided that they will participate in a gay event. If individual parents and their children choose to participate it's up to them; I see nothing wrong with that.

Any chance the queens will keep their clothes on for the kids? I am a gay man and I woulkd NEVER support this hideous, annual march to the past. Every year we take two steps back to take one forward. Maybe this will shift the emphasis from the weird in gay society to those of us who actually have made a life for ourselves and our families. But, I doubt it. It'll be the same disorganized horde of fruits, flakes, nuts, nudists, bar boys, S&M queens, drags, the water sports crowd, leather men and bar flys we see year after year. It's the freaks that they'll put on TV news every time. Then the rest of us will start all over again, trying to prove to the world that most of us are really quite normal.

The school did not organize this, the parents did. Are you advocating the schools to take the kids away from the parents because you take this behavior as an affront to some cosmic petulant three year old?

That might be the reason they are going to be at the front of the parade.

My kids went to public schools across this country and the only real problems they had were with some parents. Says a
lot about how bias is passed on.

Clearly this is an important battle of good verses evil.

Anti-gay adults will not change their minds no matter what.

Winning the hearts and minds of children today, however, will shape a different society for the generations to come.
