No more venti, but the now largest size will have it's price raised to the old venti price. So they'll make more money. This is a non-story, just free publicity. Ridiculous.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with profit margin, only taste. Yeah right. Nice to cloak a business decision in snobbery.

I wish ALL companies would do this. A great way to begin tackling the obesity problem is to address how portion sizes have gotten out of control in this country.

Nice marketing gimmick.

So, will you puff out your chest while your sitting there on the bus drinking your "superior" coffee in it's "superior" size? Or, will you just stick with Starbucks burnt coffee because you need that 20oz to last for the whole morning while you surf the.. uh... I mean work?

More than likely this is a bottom line bean counter move. If you can make a few more pennies profit per day then the bean counter will make the move. Besides that 20 oz is a bit much to finish without the coffee getting cold, so the bean counters do the consumer a favor by reducing waste (both coffee and money) :-)

Doug, as a customer who can remember the roaster in the store on Broadway when you first opened way back when, I want to say that you are nuts! I have a nice commute to work and there is nothing better than having my large size beverage of choice. Dumb move if you ask me and your loyal based customers.

I'll stick with Starbucks. I stopped at the Intelligensia in Lkvw Monday...waited significantly longer to get a cup of regular coffee, it was not as strong as Starbucks, and on top of it,.10 more for the cup. I tried being local, but 3 strikes and you're outta here!

I was hoping they would add a 2 liter size. . . I guess I'll have to count on McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, Starf**ks, or any one of the 60 trillion other coffee purveyors for my hourly cup-a-joe.

Snobby and elitist, folks? I don't think so. Not every beverage has to be 32 oz, fatties.

Oh my goodness - the first thing that struck me is the name of the place - intelligentsia - how 19th century Russian can we get? Second - venti - instead of large - if you can't hear them screaming - step right up for your hugely overpriced, guaranteed to make you feel like somebody coffee. If we make the names of everything pretentious enough you might feel like you are getting your money's worth. No wonder so many people are facing an economic meltdown - they don't have a clue when they are being bamboozled by a marketing scheme.

If I want to drive my gas guzzling SUV, drink a 20oz coffee, send my kids to magnate schools and pay extra to fly first class, who cares! It's my money!

Um... I happen to like my 20 oz Latte that I get from Intelligentsia. Plus, their regular brew coffee is never the lighter blends I like (like La Perla OMG is that heaven) so I always get a medium coffee in a large cup so I can add enough milk. If I asked for "with room" I may as well get a small.
I love Intelligentsia, but this is a bit much of snobbery if you ask me. Will I really have to switch back to *&%()#($ Starbucks when I want a fancy drink? I don't want to....
What you do is tantamount to theft. Do you think that milk is free to the coffee house? I spent 11 years in the coffee service industry from barista to regional manager for a chain and you were the kind of customer that made so happy to leave the business. You pay for the size of the cup of coffee, what and how much you add to it is your business once it is purchased. A 20oz. black coffee is equal to a 16oz. of coffee and 4oz. of milk in the same cup!!! Cafe owners base their prices on costs of materials and your little "trick" of paying for a medium when getting a large costs everyone more. Try going into any other restaurant and tell them you would like a lobster but you are only willing to pay for a hamburger and see what you get.

As for the decision to stop selling 20oz. coffee because of the drinks "integrity", I wonder if they will allow me to order two 10oz. cups at the same time if I am in their store alone...

The name of the franchise was enough to keep me out of there. What pretension to dictate to the customer what to drink!

Just like Starbucks, these companies were based upon a FAD!

As if before their arrival no one else knew how to make good coffee! Que stupide!

With $4 gas anyone who drinks that stuff is foolish. LEARN to make it at home! Ooh, I forgot! It's all about the young, fab, and broke feeling GOOD about themselves and the owners making h-u-g-e bucks. As P.T. Barnum said, There's a sucker born every minute!

While most of today’s posters celebrate their own mediocrity, I prefer to sit here sipping my second cup of Tres Santos Colombia – Huila, and revel in the delights of being a hedonist. I find it amazing the junk that passes for food these days and how people just eat it up; overly processed, tasteless, mushy texture, nutrition removed and then put back in (or as they say fortified), dosed with enough salt to preserve a whole cod, sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup and slathered in olio and palm oil. Yuck – how can people eat that cr@p!

So does enjoying coffee from Intelligencia or the Coffee and Tea Exchange, who BTW know how to roast their beans and brew their coffee, make me an elitist? Well I hope so! If being an elitist means achieving a level of knowledge and refinement. Isn’t personal achievement, striving for the best, participating in the American dream?

More reason not to drink their crap coffee, worse than Starbucks. Not to mention what an arrogant, liberal mindset they must have to claim that the reason for not serving an ultra large size. Venti this you idiots!

I am fascinated by comments. There are always people who write, "why is this news?". If it's not news, why'd you read it? When you click on the story, the Trib gets additional clicks, whcih contributes to ad dollars. So, if you don't think something is news, don't click the headline. And why in the world do people feel it is necessary to post a comment saying "why is this news?" That means you not only took the time to read the article, but you felt compelled to take additional time to then let everyone know you felt it's not news. Why? If anyone has an answer for that, please let me know.
