Um... I happen to like my 20 oz Latte that I get from Intelligentsia. Plus, their regular brew coffee is never the lighter blends I like (like La Perla OMG is that heaven) so I always get a medium coffee in a large cup so I can add enough milk. If I asked for "with room" I may as well get a small.

I love Intelligentsia, but this is a bit much of snobbery if you ask me. Will I really have to switch back to *&%()#($ Starbucks when I want a fancy drink? I don't want to....

Doug Zell is a Phi Delt and will always be a Phi Delt. Too bad he did not make coffee for us at the frat house.

What a bunch of elitist BS! If I want to drink a 20 oz latte or coffee, so be it... I guess Intelligencia won't be getting my business when I'm in the City anymore!

Did the Nanny State mentality fester into Zell's brain?

Why is this news?
If people are stupid enough to pay $4 for a cup of coffee, let them, it is their right as American citizens to waste their money on crap.
It is coffee people, get a life.

Thanks for the dietary advice. I do that too, in large quantity. But we're talking about coffee here.

Learn from this. Pretty soon there will be no more middle class in America.

That's just the way things play out when Big Business Runs things. More choices that we take for granted will be taken away with more of our rights.

A sign of the times.

I'm not a coffee drinker but the comment about "throws off the proportions of the beverage", makes absolutely no sense to me. Let's see now, you brew the coffee in a big pot, then pour it into smaller cups...OK, so somehow pouring coffee into a 20 oz. cup somehow throws off the proportions, but pouring it into a 12 or 16 oz cup does not..????...how does that work...???? I think Mr. Zell is full of "coffee" if you ask me. Now, not knowing much about fancy coffees like expresso and such, I'm guessing that you then add stuff to the base coffee to enhance the flavors or something like that...if that's the case...shouldn't the preparers know how much additional enhancement should be added to the base cup size to keep the "coffee" in the proper proportions? Seems like extremely basic chemistry to me, to keep everything in "proportion".

Drink water, it's way better for you anyway, and TAP water is fine.

It's about paying more for less.

Why did they offer 20 in the first place ?

It's about paying more for less = they're making more money = it's about economics = they're treating coffee like used cars = Chicago Tribune fails to point this simple fact out = they deserve less income/earnings for the garbage they pass off as news.

I'm sorry, I love Intelligensia coffee but that is utter b.s. With that same line of thought, does a magnum of wine taste like sweaty boots compared to a pocket bottle? Of course not. It's nonsense.

Apart from the ridiculousness of the subject of this story, since when did the word "Venti" replace "Large"? Has Starbucks really consumed our Coffee culture that much? This story isn't even about Starbucks...

I'm not a huge coffee drinker (I drink one cup a few days out of the week) but I must say, I think this is a good idea.

I recently went to Puerto Rico, and the size of their cups of coffee was about half the size of a 'small' cup in the states. However, the coffee in Puerto Rico was MUCH more flavorful and quite delicious. Mind you, I'm sure some of it just has to do with the brew itself, but regardless I couldn't imagine needing any size larger than what they gave.

Perhaps Intelligentsia is on to something...

Daily Horoscope for February 13

Cancer

With Mars and Saturn working in harmony, you'll find the support you need through friends or associates. Someone pitches in to help which will let you take a concrete step towards achieving your goals. There could however be a cost in terms of your emotional and domestic life because of what you're doing. Has responsibility taken you away from those you're close to? Try to make things up in another way.
