Havlat would have required a shorter contract term and less money each year. He racked up better stats that Hossa last season and had no injuries. He is younger than Hossa and clicked well with his teammates and with the fans.
Hossa is certainly an elite player, but no more so than Havlat, so I don't understand why the switch. Some have suggested that Havlat was Tallon's guy and that Tallon and McD didn't get along well. It's clear that Hossa was McD's choice. It's also clear that the fans don't like the direction in which McDonough is taking our winning team. |

You're correct about ticket prices around the league. Here in Edmonton it's $224 for a single game ticket for an ice-level seat to $44 just to stand in the nose-bleed sections of the arena. Those prices are in Canadian dollars which is worth about 90 cents US today, so not a drastic difference in the exchange rate. |

Sorry I am a huge Havlat fan but there is no way I would have offered Havlat more than a 1 year deal. People are coming out of the woodwork loving Havlat when the first several years he was here everyone slammed him for being injury prone. Havlat might have ourscored Hossa, but if Hossa was injured then that makes sense as to why. Detroit knew that Hossa was hurt and still wanted to resign him so whats the big deal. Everyone will have their opinion and it will be years before we know who got the better deal.
By the way every game at the UC last year was sold out. And I am pretty sure that will be the case again this year |

Yeah, Detroit knew but they only signed him for 1 year not 12...If Hossa misses half the season I just hope the Hawks get off to fast start and they get him in time for the playoff run...

Wow, lots of nonsense posting going on here. Everyone just take a deep breath. We're going to be just fine. And first of all, where in the article did it guarantee that Hossa will miss the first few months of the season? That was IF he has to have surgery. Did anyone read that he is trying to avoid surgery by rehabbing?
Even if he does miss the first few months, not the end of the world. They should be able to get to December or January without him. Maybe that will give the Hawks a chance to better evaluate their up and coming talent, such as guys like Beach or Aliu to see if they can afford to trade a guy like Byfuglien, rather than having to rush to trade away salary. How about having a fresh Hossa for when the season really starts to crank up? Could that be a positive? Everyone needs to calm down. |

You think Pittsburgh knew too? They had no problems with offering him a long term contract. If this is going to linger, I would rather him just get the surgery and miss the first 2-3 months of his LONG Blackhawks career so we can just put this in the rearview mirror and have a 100% Hossa (though a less than 100% Hossa was still able to put up 40 goals last season!). |

Several places that report on the NHL have reported that the Wings knew all last year that Hossa had that issue. He played the entire year and scored 40 goals. He is going to be a great Hawk player.

I looked at several teams sites, Philly, Boston, St. Louis, Dallas, and all have higher ticket prices than the Hawks. I say we are lucky to have a great team and cheap tickets. But people complain no matter what, I am waiting for the people to complain about Khabby leaving. I still can't believe the Oil gave him a 4 year deal, OUCH. |

Edmonton too?? Who knows maybe Pitt and Edmonton didn't know but I agree get this over with and move on... |

Section 313, where have you been?? BFM and I were at the convention and there was a guy who was bidding on some goalie blocker and mitt, that was autographed by Khabby. BFM asked him if he was you, and it wasn't. Did you go to the convention?? And how many games are you going to this year?? By the way I am thinking about going to the Hawks fest in September, anyone here going??

Do you think Hossa was going to sit at all with a bad shoulder in a contract year? After passing on long term big money deals?...That shoulder must have bothered him in the final because he didn't do much but anyway your right Tim he should produce for a good part of that 12 years.. |

I think the Oilers are paying for his past performances against division rivals Vancouver and Calgary, hoping he can do the same in the next four years. Chicago does appear have affordable tickets, and a great on-ice product. Can't beat that. |

I've been posting a bit during the offseason. I did not go to the convention this year, though after all the drama preceeding it, I wished I had! I went last year, and had fun, but figured it couldn't be as interesting as that first one, so I took a pass. Big mistake! I will definitely not be passing up next year's! Unfortunately, I'm not going to be going to as many games this year as last. We had the Mikita plan last year, and bought single game tickets for about half of the rest (about 30 games total). We debated going full this year, but passed. Another big mistake since we couldn't really afford the increase in price for the 21 gamer this year (not complaining, just don't have a ton of money right now). Settled for the 9 gamer, but will definitely be going to probably another 10 or so. We switched from Section 313 too, but I think I will stick with the same screen name! I also went to the Training Camp Festival last year and did the 10K rollerblade. That was pretty fun. I might get in on the street hockey this year. |

I don't think there's too many NHL players that don't play at least one injury (or more) all season. So I don't get too concerned when I read that Hossa had something last year going on with his shoulder. I think the fact that even with an ongoing shoulder issue through the season, he still put up 40 goals (on a team where he probably didn't play the minutes he will in Chicago), says something about his determination and skill level, and why the Hawks were smart to sign him when they did. And let's remember, on the Hossa signing, it was also the opportunity to take a big piece of Detroit's offence away from them that made the deal a good one to make. And, even if he misses a couple of months, I agree with Section 313 that it will give the Hawks time to test drive some of their other young talent.

Hossa himself said that the shoulder didn't start to bother him until the playoffs. He thinks he hurt it in last of regular season games or sometime during the playoffs. He did NOT play the entire season with a bum shoulder, so please don't try to make excuses for his points being less than Havlats. This does bring up the point that Havlat's second season with the Hawks he DID play with a torn labrum and still was one of the top scorers. The surgery that finally fixed his shoulder was done at the end of the season and he rehabbed over the summer. I think Havlat was great for the team last season and I am sorry to see him go. Hope that when Hossa is better he will score and do as much to help the other players as Havlat did. |

According to the Hawks 90% of the full season ticket holders renewed their tickets. The partial plan like the 21 game really stinks that it is only in the 100 level. I stayed off the boards during the playoffs too many stupid people on here, but now I am back. I know that BFM and Chico17 are back too. The convention this year was even better than last year. To me it was too short, I can't believe it is over. I would recommend to any Hawks fan to go to the convention. I still would love to see Tony come up for it. |

Yeah, it does stink that they weren't offering the 21 gamer in anything but the 100s, but I understand. That's the price you pay for success. I'd rather go to 9 games and watch a Cup contender than to go to all of them and watch a stinker! Plus, we got Foley and Eddie O when we can't go. Doesn't get much better! |

No way would he have sat in a contract year. It was hurt all of last year, and he hurt it more in the playoffs. I still think that with the team we have even without Hossa in the line up for a few months. |
