LW1 - just be gla it wasnt a catholic service; they wouldn't have let him in hte church or cemetery in a whisky bottle.(reverence for the remains.)

LW2 - if the other ladies are chillin' and LW is doing water zumba, i can see the problem. if LW is doing laps, get some ear plugs and problem solved.

LW3 - i'm guessing htat people just kicked out wouldn't mind a palte with a chip or a serving dish thats got those little cracks on th bottom (crazed i think is what it's called). my SIL was given a dining set that someone found yard saling for $10; she's been thankful for every little thing that someone has given her, new, used, cheap, full price, scratch and dent or perfect condition. Many of hte thrift stores areound here benefit certain programs, and the participants are given vouchers to "shop" in them. i can see Abby's comment if soemtihgn is really crappy (old sweaty, paint stained t-shirt? not so much) but little "characters" are ok.

THIS.

This, again.

L2: It's the gym, not the library. If you focused on swimming, you wouldn't even pay attention to the chatterboxes. As long as they're not in your way in the swim lane, you have no beef.
Most people can do this, but many of us cannot. I hear everything, much to my painful chagrin, and exercise can be done with head out of the water. I would be annoyed hearing idle prattle from bored women who need something more productive to do.
I hate how Abby said owners could be afraid of their membership; I would want to keep lw's membership too.

as unfortunate as that is for you, what would you expect management to do? Implement a rule that people can't talk? No talking unless you are working out? No talking if one person is distracted by your conversation?

You yourself said most people cn tune it out. Seems to me that the minority who can't are the ones who need to figure out how to manage as they are the ones with the problem and the others are not doing anything wrong.

I agree. There are many things that annoy me and I wish were different but they aren't. I try to make do and change what I can either how I handle it or by not putting myself in that situation.

We're not on this planet alone and there are some annoying things that we just have to deal with. Old ladies chatting might be one of them.
