People can pray all they want to in public and I will support them with all my might, as long as I am not forced to be silent or pray also. I respect the person praying and do not talk to them when I see they are praying. It is not like they are smoking in public and polluting my air.

Anyone who has to deal with DCFS - a state agency - might be FORCED to deal with agencies such as Catholic Charities, and Lutheran Services just to visit their kids. I think that is a violation of rights. But ACLU says nothing. Ok, atheists, GET ON IT.

Does anyone else here get the feeling that this girl and father filed this suit so they could impress their beliefs on public schools? Atheism is legally considered to be a religion and these two seem to be more giddy about kicking God out of homecoming than they are about protecting civil rights. The article portrays these two as being very self-centered and always wanting their way. The law is probably unconstitutional, but I can't shake the feeling that these two are using this statute and the legal system to impress their beliefs (or unbelief, depending on how you look at it) on others.

Atheism is NOT a religion, any more than bald is a hair color or "none" is an ice cream flavor.
And it's certainly not "legally" considered a religion. If it were, it would get tax breaks!
The First Amendment protects *everyone*, INCLUDING CHRISTIANS. I wish more Christians would learn to appreciate it!

Atheism is listed as one of the "emblems of belief" available on memorial headstones from the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs. I would say that classifies it as "legal."

What nonsense! You can say anything you like, of course, but that certainly doesn't make you correct.
That's certainly some a pretty flimsy chain of suppositions. If you consider a bureaucratic ruling by the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs to accommodate the families of deceased atheist soldiers to be some sort of validation of your irrational prejudice, I imagine you must believe six impossible things before breakfast.
Or perhaps you worship the U.S. government?
In any case, I must say that it's rather contemptible to try to use a departmental ruling for DEAD SOLDIERS against their belief!
Couldn't you come up with something more credible?

Couldn't you come up with something more credible? OK, how's this? Atheism is listed as a recognized religion in the Chaplain's manual. I'm not personally an atheist, but you are saying that it's not a "legal" religion. the "Church of Atheism" is also given tax-exempt status by the U.S. government. That makes it legal.(I know, it sounds like an oxymoron, but it's true.) I don't really care what you believe or if you think everyone else is wrong and they're all going to Hell because they don't believe exactly what you believe, but when you're proven wrong, you should at least have the courtesy to admit it.

i am 14 years old and i think that this girl has nothing better to do with her time.and i think te only reason she does this is to draw attention to herself.theres nothing wrong about what she believes in,but i dont think she has to go and sue people because of ehr opinions.and theres nothing wrong with the 1minute of silence in school.it is only one minute and it has nothing to do with prayer.it is a CHOICE that the kids have to either pray or think about other things like music. and she is a hypocryte for saying god doesnt exist yet she sings in a church choir??? basically she needs a life.

Dawn and her father are atheists and are allowed to degrade the christian communities with their satanic views. They talk about their rights but in the same respect, take the rights away from others and our country allows this? Is this fair of our country? We should be offended to be treated like a communist country by people of this stature or any individual forcing their views on a christian country.
This is the way of life, here on earth, the dwelling place of satan and his followers.
To all christians, if you are truly christians, pray for Dawn and her father's souls that they may not be lost to eternal torture upon the day our Saviour comes...not only for them but for all atheists and groups who do not know the Lord. This is so sad and something in their lives have brought them to this belief and it is because they are weak minded and lost that they believe the way they do.
True christians do not want anyone to perish into eternal torment. We all must pray for all people to see the truth.

True christians do not want anyone to perish into eternal torment. We all must pray for all people to see the truth. Why do you think that anyone who does not believe in Christ is weak minded? It takes more courage and conviction to go against the tide and stand up for beliefs that are non-traditional. Since most people in America claim to be Christian, to hold beliefs that are not Christian require a lot of confidence and soul searching. According to Christians, God gave us free will and self determination. If some of us use or free will and intelligence and decide that we do not believe in the God of the Bible +/or Jesus, that does not mean that we are weak, just that we choose to follow a different path. I am not an atheist, but Wiccan and have a relationship with the God and Goddess. I agree with Dawn that a moment of silence for prayer does not belong in school. The Bible says to pray in your closet and not in the public square. You are free to pray anytime and anywhere, do you need to have a dedicated time in a public place for your prayers?

Satan/Lucifer and his domain (Hell) is an invention of Christianity, used mostly to keep the sheep in line through fear. No other religion has such a character in their mythology. How can someone who does not practice any religion or acknowledge any god practice "satanic" views? Anyone?
