Went to doctor on Thursday, they checked me into the hospital. Had minor heart surgery on Friday evening, they inserted a drain tube into my heart sac so hey could monitor the rate of fluid build up. By Monday morning, it was determined that he tube could be removed and my body can just absorb the fluids and excrete them. Now have a 2"x2" hole in my heart sac.

Friday we find out if I am in the 5%-15% white young females who has a certain genetic mutation that will allow me to take a chemo pill! which could give me 12-14 months. Otherwise... We are down to "months."

Planning some trips (one friend and his wife have given me two airline tickets to anywhere in the world delta flies). Mom and I will go to California to visit family in Santa Barbara. My aunt Colleen made me a super soft iowa hawkeye blanket and matching catnip cat toys!

I had 13 visitorson sunday. Playing uno in my room with nick, his 6yo, and a friend, I tried using cancer as a reason they shouldn't drop a "draw 4" card on me, but apparently, being terminally ill cuts me no slack!!!

Told nick last night that I may be dying, but I'm also living and I want to have as much fun and laughs as possible.

And while I haven't finalized things yet because I've been so sick the last few weeks, and in the hospital more than I have been out, ms. Pellet has worked with my friend minds to set up a paypal account for people to contribute for my uncovered expenses, which is amazing.

My former employer even has said they will pay my cobra expenses. I need to talk to my social worker first, because I don't want to do anything that will mess up my application to be put on state disability, as I was told I can't work or look for work.

I am going to see as much comedy and live music as I can, and work on a couple of minutes for open mic night, like comedian tig notaro, who famously did an impromptu set one night, because she just found out that week she had cancer, and was too distracted to stick with her prearranged set.

Showered Friday morning. Not allowed to shower again until Wednesday.(I will sponge bath and wash my hair is morning)

True love= nick telling me last night that I don't smell bad.

I was in bed by 7:30, up this morning around 2 something.

This still is so surreal. Planning my FUNeral, giving away mementos, making arrangements for a young, struggling adult with no parental support to get my whole household of stuff when I die, so he will be able to a nice little start to an independent adult life, complete with my nice kitchen towels, tv, furniture, dishes, etc.

Remember exbf Hal? He is taking rose and Mia.

Okay, crying now. Time to go'.3156

FYI for those who are interested, caringbridge is set up. Name is angela Nims.

NO WORRIES if posting there is not your thing. It sure isn't my style, to express sympathies, especially publicly. I *think* them, but don't usually say them or type them. So I get that there are others like me in that regard.

Meanwhile, the boss who laid me off feels awful and won't leave me alone. Twice has tried to fb friend me (um no), calls, emails. Wants to meet for happy hour, etc. geez, before I knew I was sick I didn't want anything to do with her, and that hasn't changed.

But hey, I lost 15 pounds in the last two weeks. And now I am STARVING!

Could'nt believe the Vikes coach left that Qb, Josh Freeman in the whole game, when he's only been there 2-3 weeks.....if i was the Owner, that head coach would be fired...At least Eli Manning finally won a game, eh? Gruden was beside himself...lol...

Spice House is in Old Town in Chicago (horrible parking) and on Central St in north Evanston. They are an off shoot of Penzey's Spices. There is a Penzey's in downtown Oak Park and in downtown Naperville. I like Penzey's curry blends better. They each carry their own blend and they are not identical.
I agree with you on the truffle salt. I think truffles are overrated.
Downtown Naperville is far away from most of us. it has some fun restaurants that are not that expensive .
General inquiry to the group for a weekened destination meet up? There is a Williams Sonoma in town , too, if you are flush with money or just want to gaze longingly.
I've dropped a "few" dollars at the Wells St store already. I'm running out of a few items now. Parking is lousy and if I go by myself I'll take the CTA. My friend won't do that so she drives and pays parking.
I will gaze at Sonoma but can buy a little at Crate and Barrel. Don't need anything but that's not the point, is it?

Hey Ang! I am glad you are qualified for the chemo pill!!! It sounds like you are way more organized and thorough than most of us would be (at least me). I am glad you are going to make an effort to have fun - it's good for the soul!!!

But, by tomorrow, you are REALLY going to reek!

every time i see the latest verizon wireless commercial, i laugh... there's a family dressed as star wars for halloween comparing notes about where to go (house with full size candy bars) or not go (dentist giving out floss). not sure which is my favorite - dog dressed as darth vader (might be a frenchie) or the baby in the carrier, dressed as princess leia held captive by jabba the hut played by daddy...
I *love* that commercial. I think the dog is a pug, but I'll forgive them for that.

Just to clarify, I won't know until Friday whether I can take that pill. Nick and I were not optimistic. But last night we were watching Family Guy and it was a Queen-themed episode, and we took that as a sign of good things to come.:)(looking for such things whenever possible.)

Keep your head up! I hope you qualify.

My mom got canned just a few weeks before her diagnosis, too. Her boss that fired her died of cancer long before my mom did, heh.

I decided that I want to be a purple minion from Despicable Me 2 for handing out candy on Halloween. I think I just need goggles, purple face and hair paint, and black overalls. The thrift store hunting begins today.

That surgery doesn't sound so minor to me.

I'm glad you have so many people around you to distract you, make you smile, take care of you and your precious kitties, keep you going and, most of all, love you.

That makes two of us.

But I'm amazed at your spirit and sense of humor and generosity.

I'm kinda tired of figuring out a costume. I'm just gonna hand out candy naked this year again.

ANGELA:

Some things:
1. Losing my brother can't compare with your 1st POV experience, but it did make me LIVE life, even if only 2 days/year. I'm glad to see you embracing that.
2. You sound like you are dealing. I'm sure you have your dealings behind the keyboard, but dang--you sound surreal to me. I hope to accept my possible impending departure as well as you.
3. I hope you qualify for the pill!
4. My bro was instantly approved for disability and after his job released him as an employee afte waiting as long as they could, we paid cobra and it didn't affect the disability. Once you're on disability for 24 months (crossing fingers), you will automatically have to drop any insurance you have and take Medicare.
5. I saw nothing on your list about having drinks with a gorgeous blonde from Florida....November 6th. Give edog your email and he'll get it to me. ;)
