The Cardinals in 06 lost their number 1 pitcher for most of the year, their SS and center fielder were lost for most of the second half and their closer blew ten saves in a short period of time before having surgery, not to mention that their very reliable catcher had his worst ever year until the playoffs started. The point being is that the Cards were a pretty decent team to begin with and ran into a ton of lost games to injury before putting it together. The same cannot be said for this group on the SS. I think your point is that if they just get to the playoffs anything can happen. My question is, when was the last time you saw a team as bad defensively as the Sox win a playoff series? Statistically, it hasn't ever happened. Bad defensive teams don't win because they trash their pitching staffs long before the playoffs begin.

All teams suffer through injuries at some time in every sport. The way I remember the Cardinals run was that their pitching all of a sudden became lights out and once they made it to the series the young Tigers choked. I won't argue that good defense is a key ingredient for success in any sport. My point is that the best team does not always win. Look no further than the group assembled at Addison & Clark in 2008 or the 2007 New England Patriots. Anything can happen in the playoffs, for christs sake the Arizona Cardinals not only made it to the Super Bowl last yeat they almost won the d a m n thing!

Oh, and by the WAY, I SAID IT, ALSO, the Sox scored more runs in a couple of innings than your JAG BAG team from the NORTHSIDE scored in three games against a crappy ATLANTA team. 2 runs in two games against that SOX castoff VASQUEZ, you should be quite proud of that POWERFUL offense on the NORTHSIDE, dumb A@@

After Clayton's poor outing, Kenny might pull a rabbit out of his hat for a starter. He won't make a suicide move ala Hendry and ruin this team for the next 5 years, but he might be able to find a depenadble 5th starter on the cheap.

So stay off the board if you don't have your facts. Maybe too, the Indians now have some confidence going into Detroit and can take a game or two from them. I like to Sox chances in the Dome. A different team now. GO GO SOX!!! RUN RUN RUN!!!

I can't wait for their new stadium in Minessota, playing there is so boring. Anyway a sweep before the break would be great.

Mauer has hit from the first day in the majors.
I have a beef with the schedule makers. Sox first visit to the awful dome is after half way through the season? That means in the 2nd half we have 9 games in that hellhole. Not to mention we've also been scheduled to play the always tough Yanks and Bosox only in the 2nd half. This is going to be a tough second half of the season folks. Not sure if we have enough talent to overcome that tough schedule.

The Tigers choke job was the worst I have ever seen. I think they are still afraid to throw the ball anywhere near 3rd base.

But it does tell you just how easy the first half was, and coming out of it barely .500 is not a very good sign. They need the Twins and Tigers to completely collapse again to have a chance. The Sox have 15 games left against the Yankees and Red Sox, The Tigers have one series left against each of them and the Twins have already played all of their games against those two, so they have none left. This is one of the reasons the Sox needed to build an early lead or have little chance in 09. The Sox also have 4 games against Tampa Bay that the Twins have already played.
