It is what is.They could be in a lot worse shape.A string of 20 of 23 would be nice .Kevin Gregg is a real bad choice for a closer. But you cannot take sweet Lous blanket away.Marmol needs to get his head out of his arse and PITCH like he can.Gregg is a piece of crud.

Gregg makes me nervous...Marmol is scary...besides that how about the Big Z...he is a player!

Good defense except for Hill - bring back Soto.

Well, after the missed charter flight incident by Big Z, I asked myself "What's next?" Now he says he's retiring at the end of his contract. Question answered. Psyche! Yeah, we all know how serious to take Z-man. But good job on the 100th win.

Big Z was obviously focused last night. Maybe his blow up and suspension was what it took to do that but we will see after his next few starts. Does anyone else feel to Lou as his bullpen continues to struggle but, for the most part, get the job done? I'm starting to think Guzman could be the closer but I'm not sure he is ready for it mentally. I think Gregg has the mentality and the stuff to get it down but he drives me nuts. Marmol is just trying to be too perfect and strike everyone out. If he could just hit his spots more often, he get the outs he needs without the strike outs nor the walks nor the high pitch count. I guess we all forget that he is relatively still a young guy out there.

enough already with all the totally misguided comments about Hoffy's supposed poor glove, he saved the game with that spectacular catch. Now give the guy the credit he deserves.

Can we please leave Angel Guzman in when he is pitching well.
And Carlos, PLEASE stop talking. All of us miss important times due to work and other committments, all while earning a HECK of a lot less than you. I hope medical people and emergency workers are working should you need them during "special times".

Nice gem for win 100.

Typical Carlos ... starts cold and gets hot for the summer.

Look for him to post 2 months sub 3, and 1 month sub 2 for his monthly ERA over June / July / Aug.

And watch the Cubs climb the standings ... they will definately be in first place come Sept 1st .... when it matters.

Starting pitching has been very good lately and their best pitcher is pitching today!

Hopefully the BP doesn't blow another one for him, or lack of run support do him in.

When you see the closers that were available this off-season it makes it even more obvious that hendry wasn't even trying.

Is A Blanco the best we can do? a guy hitting 140ish and only has 1 RBI, talk about a rally killer.

Great that big Z had a HR last night be he had two other chances with men on base and couldn't do it? Can anyone on this team consistently get a hit with men on base? It appears not.

Zambrano is a freaking wierdo. There's just no other way to describe him. After all of the b.s. that has revolved around him, not only this year, but throughout his career, these are the type of remarks he has to deliver, after finally showing some of the worth of a 91 mil. contract. Personally, it wouldn't ruin my day, if Z decides he doesn't want to wait until his contract's up to retire.

It might be time to shake up the late inning relief corp a bit. Angel Guzman might should be considered to replace Marmol in the set up role. Something's happened with Marmol obviously, but sticking with these guys for the sake of sticking with them needs to stop. Marmol for whatever reason has lost his control, and switching roles with Guzman, perhaps could relax him enough to gain it back.

Congratulations Big Z on your 100th Win!! I am surprised to be the 1st to say it? This is a great accomplishment, plus another Win. Nothing wrong with wanting to spend quality time with his family. I can relate,I have spent my 20 year career so far working 65+ hours a week. I do miss my family alot as well. I know there are a lot of young people who post here that do not have families of their own yet. So they dont understand. Anyway the Cubs are Moving up,only 3.5 games back now Yeah. We still have 110 games left to take back the division & we Will. We obviously are getting Great starting pitching, but we have to get those bats swinging & we Will! This should make us stronger as guys that dont get to play much are getting valuable experience right now. You all have a right to your opinion. But there is way too much Hate, from the Cubs own fans??? Talk about dumping more pressure on your team. Constantly getting booed at home over every bad pitch or swing. So it kind of takes away that home field advantage for our Cubs. Fans make a big difference you can either help your team or hurt them. I have been a die hard Cub fan for 43 years and I always will be. I made a commitment along time ago, they are My team, win, lose or draw. Take care fellow Cub fans. GO CUBS,2009 DIVISION CHAMPIONS!!

Listen, I dont want to be a wet blanket, but 2 runs a game is not going to cut it with this bullpen (especially when we score only 2 runs against medicore pitching). We need to start scoring runs, until that happens, we will continue to play .500 baseball. How do we start scoring runs? Honestly I have no idea. I think a consistent starting lineup would be a start.

Z needs to grow up and stop selfishly padding his offensive stats. Only if he stops being animated and focused and determined and starts behaving how Paul Sullivan wants him to will he ever achieve his full potential and be as good as Kerry Wood. He hasn't been the face of the franchise for years now, nor one of our best pitchers ever. BRING BACK DEROSA! SELFISH! ME-FIRST!1

Thank you! As much as people rag on Fukodome, he would have made that a routine play (which it was).

The guy is pathetic. 0 for 4 again with 2 Ks. Trade him quick before the rest of the league catches on that he's a career minor leaguer and can't play with the big boys.

I love logging in and seeing only comments by Cubs fans here! It does my heart good to not have to read anything by the usual trolls that post on Cubs boards regularly because their team stinks so they have to spend their time ripping the Cubs! That being said, The Cubs still need to produce more offensively, the starting pitching has been great, but the bullpen is obviously shaky, so they'll usually need more runs, especially if they continue to use Gregg as the closer.
