Ho-Lee Chit, this is funny.

The wedding gift calculator:

I start off with a base figure of $75.00.

You brought a date to the wedding.
Add $75.00

You were invited to bring a date but couldn't find one.
Add $25.00

You were not invited to bring a date.
Subtract $25.00

You were not invited to bring a date but brought one anyway.
Add $5.00

The bride is pregnant.
Subtract $25.00

The bride is pregnant and showing.(Because there is nothing funnier than a pregnant woman wearing white at a wedding).
Add $50.00

The bride looks pregnant but you aren't sure if she's pregnant or heavy.
Add $25.00

The bride is not pregnant but you've been telling others guests that she is.
Add $50.00

The bride is pregnant but the groom is not the baby's father.
Add $50.00

The bride is pregnant and you may be the baby's father.
Add $100.00

The bride was pregnant and the baby is now a toddler and was a member of the bridal party.
(Because they had the decency to make sure the relationship was going to last before getting married)
Add $75.00

This is the bride or groom's second or third marriage
Subtract $50.00

This is the bride or groom's fourth marriage.
(Persistence is its own reward)
Subtract $25.00

Open Bar for alcohol
Add $25.00

Cash Bar for alcohol
(*Ask for a receipt every time you order a drink. Deduct the total amount of money you spent on alcohol. Then put the receipts in the envelope with your gift)

LW2: You're a whiny, miserable btch. Stay home. Everyone (*especially* your poor husband) will have a much better time without you.

That said,**11** bridesmaids? WTH?

Hey Sub! Would a BYOB reception work for you? Sure you gotta pay, but it is only the absolute cost, no mark up.

Between paying 4X the amount that the alcohol actually costs, yeah, I'd MUCH RATHER bring my own. I could get a 12 pack of some great beer or a bottle or two of decent wine, for my wife and me, for way cheaper than what our bar tab would be, especially when you factor in tips. Even when I go to an open bar, I'm dropping at least $15-20 bucks on tips alone. I know of some pretty good bottles of wine that are around 10 or so bucks.

I already touched upon you question. The thing I really don't like about a cash bar is not so much that you have to buy your own alcohol, but rather that you have to pay out the wazoo for it, as if you were at a bar or restaurant that is out to make a profit. I think it's tacky to treat guests like that.

However, everything works for me. I go with the flow. That doesn't mean I don't have opinions. I've yet to reach a state of perfection like tonka, in that regard. I will keep trying and hopefully one day I will be perfect like Tonka, and reach nirvana.

So, yes, my defective flawed self thinks it's kind of tacky to make your guests buy their own alcohol at a HUGE MARK UP cash bar. But hey, the bride has to wear a 2k dress, and get a 10k engagement ring, and there's the honeymoon in Tahiti, and the DECORATIONS ... lets not forget about the decorations.

You don't "lend" family (especially not your own kid) money.
You give it,
and if it comes back,
...you're just lucky.
