Chas Chicago, IL	Reply » \| Report Abuse \| Judge it! \| #6 Apr 14, 2008 The cougar or mountain lion was shot to death in the alley between Hoyne and Hamilton, just north of Roscoe just after 6:00pm. Shots were also fired by police on Seely Avenue. The cat - weighing about 150 lbs was about 5 feet long. The cat was taken by Animal Control an hour later for autopsy. Over 25 police were at the scene.

It wouldn't be the first time an exotic was let loose when it no longer served a purpose of stature. If this is the case.....Too bad it wasn't the moronic owner who was shot instead.

The fear-mongers will tell you that it was better the cougar than a person or child...those people watch to much TV. Cougars are solitary animals and will not attack a person unless cornered or surprised. If it wasn't a Chicago cop, then I hope they are trying to catch the person who did the shooting, if it was a cop...shame on them if they weren't being threatened by the animal. The poor cougar was probably more frightened than anyone seeing it.
