This is exactly why we should have disbanded NATO back in the early 1990s.

Had Georgia been a member...like some of the old Eastern Bloc countries are now...the US would be OBLIGATED to recognize Russia's military action as if it was against us.

Yeah disband NATO Real smart, after the Olympics is over and china shows its true intent we are gonna need them.
Russia would be happy to sit back and sell china billions of dollars while it warred with the USA over control of the pacific region.

Leave it alone, we are screwed up in our own B.S. I suppose G.B will want to get involved. He preaches about the injustice in China and it is going on here in the name of Democracy.

Sell China dollars? Why would ... what? The Chinese and Russians rarely agree. They might vote together on the security council, but that's because they both want to dominate Asia.

I'm not sure what moral authority the U.S. has here. We encouraged Kosovo's sovereignty; if the Ossetians want secession it would be inconsistent to back Georgia (though, admittedly, I'm not an expert on the entanglements).

I hope it all goes well for Georgia. I've always been one to support the underdog though.

Let's all hope George Bush doesn't want to help "stabilize" the region, or we are in for 10 more years of war.

Are people in this topic crazy or just plain stupid??
This is exact situation as it happened in Kosovo.
S. Osetia is trying to gain independence from Georgia since 1992. Last 2 polls showed 95% of it's citizens support separation. Georgia does not want to let it happen... so they finally attacked S. Osetia... Russia has stepped in as it (1.) has a military agreement to protect S. Osetia from (any country's) invasion and (2) Several thousand citizens of Russia live in S. Osetia.

Do you think the timing is a little suspicious??(right on the day of the opening of Olympics.. when both US and Russian heads are right next to each other).

Would US step in if say.. Puerto Rico was being attacked???

John, we know you've already visited Persia. Maybe you should consider stopping by Siam this time around?
