I had a Sears credit card for over thirty years. Came under identity theft and they cancelled me. I never shopped there after that. Sears is not loyal to its long time customers. Why?

Victim of Citibank Theft

If Sears is wondering what's happening to their retail sales, they don't have to look to far to see what Citibank is doing to them.
I was making regular, monthly electronically-scheduled payments on my Sears (Citibank) credit card that were well above the minimum payment due. Because ONE payment was sent by my bank ONE day late, Citibank starting not only hitting my account with their late fees, but began calling my house (both Citibank "University" AND a bill collector in another state) every hour on the hour beginning at 8:00 am and running through 8:00 pm.
While I explained the situation to them several times, they acknowledged the circumstances, but told me they could do what they are doing. My balance due went from less than $1,000 to now $2,000. I haven't bought a thing and the regularly-scheduled payments have been sent to them electronically since then.
In this instance, it should be obvious to Sears. Steal money directly out of our pockets to fund Citibank "University", or behave ethically and conscionably, leaving us with money that belongs to us so that we can continue to shop at Sears.
Sears can claim "no knowledge", but people know that they're creating their own retail problems through their predatory credit card practices--and then look to foreign investors to bail them out. I hope they shut their doors soon.

The house of cards is falling down. Everyone is blaming everyone else... it's becoming comical at work. Can we vote Lampert out for no confidence?

Please wait...
My condolences to Theft Victim, especially since I've been there only for me it was a Bank of America VISA account.
I know it's no consolation but unfortunately, this is not at all uncommon and with Citi in the trouble it's in and with virtually no oversight anymore, will probably even get worse.
Just a couple of questions to consider though in regard to Citi and Sears.
Isn't Lampert a big time shareholder of Citigroup also? Isn't it one of the holdings that he's been taking a major drubbing in in recent months?
And for this one, you have to go back some to before the "merger" announcement when Mr. Lampert was still having to exercise his control of the company through a proxy.
How big a role did Mr. Lampert's shareholder activism play in the decision by Alan Lacy and the then current BOD decision to sell the Sears credit division to Citi just a matter of a few months after Mr. Lacy had been staunchly defending Sears continuing to operate it's own credit division, calling it the only division that was bringing in any money at the time.
One thing about Sears that you can take to the bank (I'd recommend somewhere other then CitiBank though) is that there are always going to be a bunch more questions than there are answers.

The sale of the sears credit card to citi-bank happened apporx. 2 years BEFORE Aylwin and Eddie came on board. That decision was a LACY brain fart. Aylwin and Eddie have been dis-manteling that company piece by piece. All the while socking a way a tidy profit for themselves. This is what Eddie does! Glad I left that corp office when I did!
