I wonder if this is why they recently made drastic cuts to the menu at the Clybourn location.

Goose Island opens, makes an area more interesting, rent goes up. Landlord kicks out original tenant who made the realestate more valuable to being with.
My thoughts exactly! I used to go to Goose Island all the time ... when that area was NOTHING. Too bad they can't afford the rent. But, good for me that I can get Honker's Ale down here in Indianapolis!

A lot of people and businesses are moving to Indiana to get away from Cook County taxes and Illinois nanny laws. Hammond is across the street from Chicago.

Umm... what does it mean when you say the pub will close "due to the firm's inability to renew its lease" ?

Were they unable to renew it because they couldn't find a pen to sign the contracts? Did a lawyer get lost on the way to the office?

Corprate speak, much?

How is that possible? Every time I go to that location they're pretty packed. I suppose the property values in the area are rising faster than their profits.

If they move to the suburbs I'll be pissed.

i hate the wrigleyville one. was goose island unable to afford the lease (can't imagine that's the case), or did the building's owner think they could get more in this market?
sad, sad, sad.
i know i can still get their fine brews, but i really liked the clybourn location.
Not only that, but for anyone who remembers the original 1800 building, Goose anchored that whole building.

Yeah, I used to hit Goose and then go to that pool joint across the hall in the original building.

I have heard that they are looking to open in a new location, but it is highly unlikely that it will happen before the Clyborne location is closed. Hopefully they do follow Daniel M's advice and open in the north/northwest suburbs. My wife and I are planning on moving out that way after our daughter heads off to college in the fall and it would be great if our favorite brewpub moved with us!
Sure, Chris, anything for you.

The Clybourn Goose Island *used* to be a fun place to hang out until all the Chads and Trixies had their babies and turned it into a child free-for-all. Every time we went there recently, it was full of tables with parents ignoring their screaming children who'd run around and disrupt the other patrons. Since I have many choices for dining in the Chicago area, I decided to leave the daycare behind and go elsewhere. I'm not surprised that this is how the Clybourne (duck duck) Goose Island ends.

The Clybourn location has far superior brews to the Wrigleyville location. They are constantly experimenting and have been putting out some of the best beers in Chicago, especially over the past couple years. Goose will be highly missed.

There is nothing wrong with being in the suburbs. We live within a 15 minute car ride to downtown, or a 25 minute Green or Blue line ride into the city.

We love the city, but do NOT want to deal with Daley's absurd taxes and fees on damn near everything. I mean COME ON...a water bottle tax, beverage tax, sales tax that is the highest in the nation...the nickel & diming of the citizens of Chicago has got to stop, and we voted with our feet and left Chicago.

Goose Island I am certain simply could not afford the cost of doing business in Chicago.

I'm sure their Clark Street location does GREAT during Cubs games, and is in a viable location (Wrigleyville) to be economically successful the rest of the year.

Just please reserve your animosity towards the suburbs, which I suspect is born of jealousy with regards to our lesser taxes & fees.

As our country continues to become "diverse," I long for the day when "separate but equal" can be reinstated. Smokers can have their places, the complainers can have theirs. Child-free by choice professional singles and couples theirs, mommies and daddies theirs. This would makes every situation a lot more tolerable and enjoyable.

Let us put the "market" back into capitalism where everyone can exercise their own right to choose how and where they want to spend their money.

I really hope they find another location close to the current Clybourn one .. nobody has pointed out that the Clybourn one is actually right by the actual "Goose Island" for which it is named!

It should stay in the city and not encourage suburban sprawl. Better to have a beer where you can easily get a cab/public transit than to encourage drink-driving out in the 'burbs.

Umm...Liz, do your research, while Cook County has raised the sales tax, the city of Chicago also added to the sales tax, leading to a sales tax rate of 10.25% in Chicago. Forest Park will have a sales tax rate of roughly 9%...not a huge cost savings, but nonetheless better then Chicago.

One also needs to look at real estate taxes, Business fees, etc. which is something that Goose Island may also want to save money on by opening a facility in the suburbs.

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Scorpio

If something is bothering you, it's important that you say so now, loudly and clearly. It's no good bottling things up any longer because that will only lead to resentment and a slow-burning anger. However, it's important that you know when to shut up too, otherwise you might overstate your case or sound so demanding that you turn others against you.
