Seven Democrats voted against the motto, In God We Trust, on the visitor center: Edwards, MD; Honda, CA; Hirono, Hawaii; McDermott, WA; Scott, KY; Stark, CA, and Conyers, MI. The only Republican was Ron Paul.

Which "God" are we honoring? Zeus? Christ? Allah? FSM?

Religion and government should always be kept separate, because mixing them weakens both.

So our congress has once again decided to ignore the bill of rights and keep you fundies happy with your delusions. Doesn't do a thing except make you all look like hypocrites and hate-mongers. Just look at the latest surveys on religion; your self-righteous intolerance is driving people away from your mythology. Can't wait until become as secular as Europe!

why are they arguing about such petty things? we have better and more important problems to discuss. separation of church and state is definitely not one of them. these idiots dont really have anything else to argue about. lets focus on something that we're all impacted by... such as war and failing economy.

People in this country still believe in God. They may not go to church as much as years ago or practice a set religion, but they still believe in God.

Those who can comment intelligently on this won't waste the time to, because there are so many other things that need to be addressed. And that is the edge that the stupid have and the reason that they win the day like this.

The Bill of Rights is not there to protect the majority; it is there to protect the minority.

As someone once wisely said, the United States is NOT "one nation under god." It is one nation under a Constitution.

Are you so insecure in your own religious beliefs that you feel so threatened by these eight patriots?

And before anyone says this is a liberal issue, consider that one of those eight votes was cast by Republican Ron Paul of Texas, who embodies the libertarian sentiment that many in the Republican party used to share many years ago.

Not everyone. And chiseling nonsense on a building won't convert anyone to your mythology.
