Hey Chad, we happened to meet your bakery people over at the Yorkmont market a few weeks ago, good folks. Really looking forward to your opening!

Speaking of bakery people...if you want the best in our area (that people order/shop from)....I would suggest talking to Sam Berry at Berry's Bakery in Gastonia. He's across from Ashbrook High School and has remained a staple in Gaston County for 20 yrs.

I've eaten just about every baked item at Yorkmont, Gastonia, Belmont, and Mt. Hollywood..Berry has the best breads and deserts. He's also won many awards for his chicken salad. Just a friendly tip!

Thanks Wonka, I'll give him a try. We always hit up Baker's Blessing at Yorkmont -- she always sits next to the German woman who sells pickles and jelly. Her boule with baked in garlic, onions, and olives is killer! Mmmm bread.

@ Mo - Where's Wellhouse?

@ Thorn - I think so. Think I know who you're talking about. She sells little dessert breads, little pies, & soup mixes. We've bought pumpkin and sweet potato breads from her before. Might have to hit her up for some macaroons ;)

Hey Wonka, we found Berry's this week. Disappointed that they didn't have bread but our toddler was definitely overjoyed at the sweets counter. Bought a little of a bunch of different stuff and it was all awesome. Thanks for the tip.

Definitely looking forward to bakery bread in town when the String opens!

What did he say? You know they just opened that new place. They certainly do make and usually have bread.

Best cakes and pies around :-)

The woman working the counter said they don't do bread -- that they're a "traditional Southern bakery" which I guess means cake and other sweets only. It was the Berry's Bakery across from Ashbrook HS. Perhaps their new place does and that's where you're talking about, and where is that? Their lemon chess tart was unbelievably awesome.

They first were downtown Gtown 15 yrs ago across from First United Methodist..they had bread and biscuits.

Then they moved across from Lineberger Park..bread and biscuits.

Then New Hope Road across from Tee Time and had them.

I'll find out the deal when I go in again..very strange. Seems to me a traditional southern bakery would have biscuits at least.

Sorry about that.

Keep your eye out over there. He has the best chicken salad and tea you'll ever run across.

If you noticed that room on the right in there? That will be his new tea room where they'll serve sandwiches. His other place up New Hope did burgers and all that. This will just be the chicken and tuna salad as that's what everybody wanted.

The Wellhouse is on Main St downtown MH across from Wachovia. Free Wifi and good desserts make it a good stop if you happen to be out that way. Sometimes they even have blueberry cheesecake, ummmm! Hey speaking of treats, who else is loving the new Dunkin Doughnuts in Belmont?

I'm trying to adujust. Dunkin Doughnuts are bread based (vs cake base for Krisy Kreme) and that takes some getting used to. But the coffee rocks.

Pies are on order for Turkey Day. Thanks again Wonk for the hook-up.

Heard that the Stringbean opening probably be after the first of the year.
