I don't race anymore (due to the fact that I am almost 40) but I am alarmed by some of the post here. People have street raced since the beginning of the automobile. I did it in my early 20's like most. And it's not like people are racing through neighborhoods. You pick roads that are nice and straight without a bunch of traffic. And to tie in that these racers are drug users or low-lifes is just insane.

And I also have to tell you guys that think your rice burner bumble bees are so much faster than anything else is just a riot. I have yet to see a rice burner that impresses me with performance.(take away the Subaru WRX). Most are just Honda family cars with lots of extras that might look trick but in the end are just noise. Let me see a Honda accord do 0-60 in anything less than 6 seconds.

i never understood why people are so pissed about street racing. its only dangerous if your stupid about it. the dangers on the highway basically only include truckers and whatnot playing vigilante trying to stop races from continuing. if the cops crack down on certain areas, we move. GET OVER IT

I can't believe what I am hearing. All you street racers are very disrespectful. The original poster stated that he hears the noise in the middle of the night. This my racers, disturbs them. Apparently you racers don't have real jobs to attend to and that is why you don't understand.

And let's not forget about how dangerous it is. It's crap what someone said about how it's not dangerous if your stupid about it. Umm don't you think racing which requires you to go way beyond the speed limit is stupid to begin with? Not to mention all that danger you are putting other vehicles in. You guys are all morons. If you want to race, maybe you should not being living here where there is no drag strip. This pisses me off because you all put me and my kids in danger when we are on the road, regardless of time. We travel alot and it makes me so upset that you are so inconsiderate to the laws. And it is illegal dummies.

ok i agree with you michelle but understand: some ppl get their high when they smoke crack or meth. some get it when they drink or take X. us street racers get our high when we feel our backs pressing into our expensive racing seats. im sure that i speak for all of us racers when i say that there is a sense of pride and accomplishment when you take a crap car, restore it and make the thing go 175 mph. whenever im at an event and i hear the whine of turbos, hissing blow-off valves and peeling tires i get a mondo johnson. we love speed and if we had our choice we'd race sanctioned events but like your husband whos addicted to internet porn and jerks it to 13 year old girls in chat rooms, we need to get off regardless of the law (in your husbands case kiddie porn laws). ok maybe that was unfair, comparing us to your perverted pediphilic husband (sorry fellow racers) but you must understand, we cant simply NOT race... but at least we make an effort to make it safe, racing at night when theres the least traffic and racing in non-residential areas. and to whoever that dude was that said all "rice burners" are crap (or something to that effect) i beg to differ. real street racers like myself have cars that do a quarter mile in 13 seconds or less. and dont take me wrong, im not bashint american muscle (if thats what you were thinking). quite the contrary, i love american muscle. i grew up around mustangs, GTO's, caminos and buick rivieras. those are in short supply so we take what we can get. were just the new generation taking after our fore fathers, the hot rodders.

i think youre kinda dumb. im a passionate racer and i do it about every weekend but no, streetracing shouldnt be legalized becasue its dangerous. maybe at certain times and in certain places but not legalized altogether. i think that if the cities dont want us racing they make us some damn tracks. its as simple as that. all you stiffs out there dont want us on the streets racing? THEN GO TO A TOWN HALL MEETING AND BITCH TO THE MAYOR. but we take it where we can get it. and to all the young pukes who think they can race cuz they rule at need for speed: underground. think again. for one, you dont have a ps2 controller, you have a steering wheel. you dont have the x and o buttons, youve got a brake, clutch and gas pedal. and when you get in a jam you cant push the start button and just redo the race. this aint no game punks, this is for the big kids so stop racing your dads stock civic and giving us a bad name

i get you kahlil, and i agree. but youve got to have power regardless. im quite skilled in the art of drift and grip racing. if you dont have the right line thru a turn youre kerfukt. ive beaten guys with 80+ hp on me cuz they couldnt corner and didnt know how to handle their cars. them dicktards are the ones that give us a bad name. those idjits are the ones that get ppl killed. and i resent that comment about me being a dipshit... that was mean

I am indifferent about the street racing. my one question is what happens when you wreck your car and hurt someone that was not involved in the race. Do not tell me it does not happen. I work for and EMS agency and I haev seen it first hand.

Here's an interesting link that gets you to a story on street racing.

As noted in the article, in San Diego a possible punishment for drag racing is impounding your car and selling it, using the funds to enforce anti- racing laws. Also, it is a crime to watch street racing in the San Diego area. This year two California racers were convicted of manslaughter after they killed a pedestrian not involved with the race in any way. In San Diego they do have a drag race "track" set up by the police where drivers can race for $5 or $10 a night. Cars are teched to make sure they are safe and the racing is organized. The city cut the fatalities due to racing to virtually nothing. Think it's a good solution? If so, what can be done to get something like it going in the Charlotte area?
Very informative...
