7-Year-Old Breaks Into Zoo, Feeds Live Animals to Croc
Friday, October 03, 2008

Oct. 1: Security footage shows a 7-year-old boy throwing a turtle over a wall at Alice Springs Reptile Centre in Australia.
SYDNEY, Australia — A blank-faced 7-year-old boy broke into a popular Outback zoo, fed a string of animals to the resident crocodile and bashed several lizards to death with a rock, the zoo's director said Friday.

The boy jumped a security fence at the Alice Springs Reptile Center in central Australia early Wednesday, then went on a 30-minute killing spree, using a rock to slay three lizards, including the zoo's beloved, 20-year-old goanna, which he then fed to "Terry," an 11-foot, 440-pound vsaltwater crocodile, said zoo director Rex Neindorf.

The boy, whose deadly acts were caught on the zoo's security camera, also threw several live animals to Terry over the two fences surrounding the crocodile's enclosure, at one point climbing over the outer fence to get closer to the giant reptile. In the footage, the boy's face remains largely blank, Neindorf said.

"It was like he was playing a game," he said.

He killed 13 animals worth around $5,500, including a turtle, bearded dragons and thorny devil lizards, Neindorf said. Although none were rare, some would be difficult to replace, he said.

"We're horrified that anyone can do this, and saddened by the age of the child," Neindorf said.

Alice Springs police said they identified the boy, who lives locally, but were unable to press charges because of his age. Children under age 10 are not criminally liable under the law in the Northern Territory.

"By all accounts, he's quite a nasty 7-year-old," said Neindorf, who plans to sue the boy's parents. "If we can't put the blame onto the child, then someone has to accept the responsibility."

The zoo's security system, which relies on sensors, probably did not detect the boy because he is so small, Neindorf said.

I hope the boys parents are alreafy in jail, where were they when the monster went on his murder spree? A child does not just wake up one morning demented like this monster, the parents must have a clue. This monster will need years of professional help and should not be left alone for even a moment, neighbors and school officials including bus drivers should be made aware of the type of monster this child is so that such future behavior can be stopped. The courts will screw this one up, society has to step in and ensure this monster does not strike again.

The comments of a sociopath. Sociopaths have no feeling for others and that includes animals.

you cant blame the parents ovbiously the kid has mayjor issues and if the parents were watching him he would have waited till they were asleep and killed the animals anyway.

He is 7 years old folks. People buy live mice to feed their pet snakes. I don't and I cannot understand why people have to have animals that should be left in the wild nor can I understand locking up animals in a zoo..its cruel..to put free roaming animals in cages.

There are places who are stopping this cruelty and have acres of land fenced for animals to roam freely. Using animals for circus is cruel also and many are treated cruelly.

Why would anyone want to buy a bird clip their wings and put it in a cage...how sick are we??? God did not create animals for us to toy with.

Which is just what that little sh*t did. He too is obviously mentally ill. Probably born with a mental defect. Incurable. People with these types of sicknesses are born that way and nothing can cure them. Best to lock the brat up now for the rest of his life because he WILL graduate to people.

I have to agree with Jessica. We need to just back off, I mean even I tortured bugs and I had a snake that I fed live mice. It's all just normal kid stuff. He'll grow up to be a man and not a PETA wimp.

That little bastard can go kill himself for all i care he had no right 2 kill those animals for no damn reason.I think that he will grow up 2 be a serial killer if he don't get caught doing something else. Well the parents should be punished and the kid should go catch aids.

Well you are speaking of a young child here. It does however show disturbing signs. Most serial killers have admitted to being cruel to animals. Wrether it be just killing them, or going as far as to torture them. Then they progress. But even though its disturbing, lets not catagorize him as a serial killer, in the making.

It makes you wonder where his parents were or how he got away from them like that. At 7 a child a shouldnt be left unattended. The parents should most definetly seek him medical attention.

Your throwing diagnoses around you have clue about. 7 year olds do what they see and copy from adults and most behavior is "learned" behavior. Nor do they have a clue of what life and death is. A child is not of adult mind and your giving a 7 year old an adult mind but a sick mind at that.

You sound like someone who would abuse a child and when the child copies your behavior then you say oh he is mental send him away. And so it goes generation after generation of idiots.

You know nothing about me. No one in my family including myself was ever abused or commited abuse. I DO know however that sociopaths are born not made. They display no empathy for others and that includes animals. They are often found to abuse animals at a young age ON THIER OWN without modeling adult behavior.
