The south was based on a landed aristocracy that didnt believe in working. The culture was rotten, degenerate and backward. The whites who were not slave owners or land owners were nothing more than dirty, hungry animals.
The north on the other hand was based on the principle that "man is in the image of god". It fostered industry, science and technological progress for the common good of all men.
That difference in culture is what makes the north superior to this very day. Not whether you got your feelings hurt after a New Yorker failed to open a door for you.
