Why would someone leave Boise State, TCU, Northwestern or Arizona to coach the lowly gophers when they already have winning programs in place and get paid more money? Face it, the Gophers only choice is to attract someone looking for the big time - lets see South Dakota or North Dakota State have better teams and better programs...

You are Wrong wrote: Gary Patterson? You are dreaming. I'm a Frogs fan and I'll tell you he and his wife love Fort Worth and he's been on the short list for a lot more attractive jobs than Minny and each time signed a contract extension. The guy has a program that has a shot at a third straight top 10 finish. Why would he think about the Gophers job? It's not a step up. What about Mike Leach? Yeah I know he was fired for not apologizing to a Texas Tech player and was routinely fined for talking about officiating, but evidently he can coach and maybe ready to tone down his rhetoric.

Gary Patterson already said no to the Gophers once. There's zero chance he'll take that job. TCU is about to spend $140 million on a new stadium. He recruits well in Texas and is paid very well. Mike Leach's offense probably won't work in the Big 10. Just my opinion.

One idea to consider might be Kerwin Bell. He's a former QB and Heisman candidate at Florida who now coaches at Division 1-AA Jacksonville University. It's probably premature to move him to 1-A, but he's sure turned around a terrible program. In his last 3 games his offense has put up 86, 56, and 61 points while giving up 7, 14, and 17 points. Having a Gator background, one has to know his standards are going to be very high.

Although a different sport I find Monson (b.b. coach) to be the poster boy of coaches who were flash in the pans.
