Speaking of coaches with NFL connections, I think Brad Childress will be available soon...

Moss had the balls to tell the guy his food sucks .... big deal .... I'll bet every restraunt in the world gets complaints daily from someone about their food .... why would one of the Wilf's have to call to apologize....let me guess , Childo is such a moron he can't do it
Is there any kind of restraunt in Big Lake? Or just a gas 7-11.

A "gigantic rebuilding challenge at Minnesota" is not going to attract a winning coach away from a successful program. Maybe Michigan or Texas, but not Minnesota.
As an Oregon Duck, I witnessed a losing program turn itself around. I despaired, learned patience, and celebrate, now, a suddenly successful program. But it took years.
I think the Gophers should hire former Oregon coach Mike Bellotti. He has been part of a rising program and understands how long it takes, and what it takes, for a program to become successful and a winner.
I encourage everyone to google 'Bud Withers Seattle Times' to read his column about the old days of Duck football when he worked for the Eugene Register-Guard.
Be patient just a little longer Gopher fans.

Face it--Charley has a wonderful wish list, but reality is that a "name coach" will not come to MN to coach at the U unless the budget is increased to be on a par or near to Michigan, Ohio State or Wisconsin. They all have football budgets that are 3-4x more than the U--only Northwestern has a smaller budget for football & that is by 400k--miniscule in this area.
I agree that Leach or Levitt may be the options to immediately get recruiting going & use their connections in the Southwest & Southeast to bring some players north. The fact is MN & WI have minimal player talent that would be productive immediately in the Big Ten. But the programs needs someone who can recruit, coach th talent he has & use teh resources that are available. Be happy with a 8-4 season and an occasional 9-3 or 10-2 year & understand that until that coach arrives, it is what it is.
We did that @ Michigan State--and we will never be "Michigan"--but we are close every year!

Oregon has done well AFTER Bellotti because of a 1.) great support from administration & 2.) excellent budget for the Pac-10 I am afraid he's too old & would not fit in here--he certainly isn't the first 6-8 people I would look at. But until the new President is hired and perhaps, a new AD too, it all will be moot.

If we can't get Petersen then I think the U should hire Skip Holtz. He's a great coach in FL, a state that has 3 professional football teams and 4 other college teams that are bigger and better than his team. But Skip finds a way to recruit good plays and win games. He lived in MN when his father was the coach at MN. Lou liked the U and I think Skip would get a lot of recruits because of his father’s name. Plus Lou had a lot of HS coaches that he knew well and they liked him too. Skip should be able to keep the MN kids in MN. Plus he's young enough that he could be around for many, many years to come.

Heck I've trashed caterers for crap food too. Why is the press jumping on the band wagon against Moss. He was a model citizen in New England. He came to the Vikings and saw what a joke Chili is and he reacted acccordingly. A real coach would have sat him down told him who was boss. Remember the old story about when Grant took over the Vikings? Mike Lynn was going over the roster, he came to a player who was a noted trouble maker. Grant asked if he could play football, when told he could. Grant said it was his job to make sure he behaved. thats what a real coach does.

Been patient for over 50 years now? How much longer would you think it would be reasonable to be more patient? Knock knock?

Yeah, Chris Peterson's going to leave a perennial top 5 team on the cusp of competing for the national championship annually for a perennial bottom-feeder in the Big 10.

Why? Because he's a masochist? I'm glad the Gophers are looking for a coach somewhere outside the "Used Car Salesmen" category. But some sense of realism should probably intrude their wish list sooner rather than later.

Skip Holtz, who has won only 4 games at the Univ, of South Florida, when the guy who he replaced, is available and took a Div 2 team to Div 1 and in less than 5 years won 97 games while only losing 57 and attained a top ten ranking for several weeks. He won 3 of his 5 bowl games. Hire Jim Levitt

Minnesota is in the middle of the Big Ten in football budget with the second smallest stadium in the Big Ten. Money is not the issue.

Yes, but we don't spend the money on competitent coach like the other schools, nor do we spend our money on the players like Southern California.

Daily Horoscope for June 1

Virgo

It's no good arguing with a certain person today because they'll always have a smart answer ready for you and you'll simply end up going round in circles. You could also get rather ratty in the process, which will destroy any chance of raising objective arguments or proving that they're a boring pedant who's only happy when they're scoring points off you. They might say the same about you!
