It is absolutely incredible the cost of doing business with Cox - much less trying to have any of their premium services. I like Cox in many ways but I think I need a second job to be able to keep from getting the old rabbit ears back out of the attic.
I run a business with 2 offices - both offices have cox internet and telephone service. Combine that with my home service and, whew, over a grand a month! I sincerely miss the old days of Newport News Cablevision and I can remember all of the warnings about the Cox take-over driving up prices... Direct TV anyone? They're probably worse. |

Oh Yeah, I actually tried last evening to call them to expand my home cable service (what was I thinking?) and was on hold FOREVER. I hung up and tried again a little later and, again - I was getting older and grayer while waiting. OMG!
I hope these new fees will allow them to put a few more reps on to answer the friggin phones! |

Switch to Sat, much better/cheap

I tried Direct TV once..what a nightmare! Sure did get a lot of tv channels, tho...but then again, how many weather channels can you watch, how many religious channels can you watch. Cox is really getting pricey, but they do have some good content.

I had cox since '98. Went to Dish Network earlier this year. The best decision I ever made. My bill is half, with half the problems. And more channels. My only complaint is during thunderstorms, we loose the signal for a few minutes. Minor, but annoying. Funny how Cox got into the telephone business and when Verizon went to the cable business this year, Cox cried "unfair".

How well do rabbit ears work? I cant pay for cox anymore. Cost to high!

cox internet service is very good in my view.
I wouldn't have their tv or phone though. many better alternatives. |

Cox is ridicously expensive. I know people with DirectTV, and it is much better, more user friendly too. Cox have some nerve to be hiking their price's, it's just not worth it anymore. I will definately switch now.

Dish Network is a much better choice. I have had it for over two years now and the price (about $65) hasn't gone up once. We occasionally lose signal during heavy storms, but you have the DVR option that records shows and you can watch what you have recorded when you lose the signal.
Cox is way too expensive and customer service sucks. I have had to call Dish Network once the entire time I have had it, because I had a question not a problem, and they answered it w/o putting me on hold once. |

My cox bill combining cable & internet went up $5 a month last February, another $1 in August, and now another $3. Not right!!

The frustrating part is that the customer has no voice. Local govenments are the franchise authorities. The FCC points the finger at them sometimes when rates go up.
Maybe there are too many hands in the cookie jar. I can't figure out why consolidation is promoted when competition is needed. Youtube FCC meeting: http://www.youtube.com/watch... |

Just like the rest of Cox Communications. Everything about Cox sucks, especially Digital Max.
The put their commercials over program content. How many Cox commercials can one watch? They are as bad as Hanes Furniture, mabye worse. Every commerical break we get the same lies and crap. |
|
|
What about Verizon FIOS Internet/TV has anyone have this service yet?

That's right, folks! This is another example of bad managmement.
Council just hands it out, like City Center, Oyster Point, Warwick Boulevard, The Fine Arts Center, Mariner's Museum, The Airport Authority,Christopher Newport, Ferguson Center, and the American Theater in Hampton to mention but a few of the larger beneficiaries. Did you know the Warwick Boulevard project could be covered in $10 bills with 1.5 million dollars left over? So don't be surprised that your cable bill goes up. Times are FAT, but JOE MUST GO |
|
|
Their customer service lines are not manned 24 hours. This is unacceptable for a provider of essential services.

"Essential Services"....
Speaking of which..why arent cable companies considered utilities, as are phone companies and electric companies? Cable Companies 'have' become essential services, as we get most of our news from TV and the Internet.(Just ask the Daily Press!) The prices would be more regulated if they were considered utilities, wouldnt they? |
|
Council can regulate Cox any time it wants. It chooses not to do so and let them rip us off.
|

|
Every time I see their "report cable thieves" I turn in the local COC office. Biggest crowd of thieves around.
Except mabye City Council

How many weather channels can you watch on Direct TV? What are you talking about? I only have one weather channel. Now, I grant you there are way too many religion channels but there are lots of other channels, too and the NFL Sunday Ticket and the hockey package, ESPNU, NFL Channel. I love my Sat dish. I would never go back to Cox ever. I got sick and tired of them threatening to take away ESPN. |

I was getting 5 weather channels, and about 17 religion channels. Maybe it was just an area I lived in. But it was overkill.
With Verizon in the area now, consumers have yet another choice. |
