Cell phones are a symptom of the much larger problem concerning the behavior of all age groups in today's society. Some behaviors are rude and will always be rude. We can not stop a 50 year-old from using a cell phone in a check-out line at the store, but we can prevent students from using the phone during school. Suspend the student with a "no tolerance" policy. If an important call needs to be made, it can be done from the office. Self control is, after all, one of the most important lessons to be learned.

Not to mention the camera phones that are being taken into the restrooms. I say have the students check them into the office at the beginning of the day and pick them up at the end of the day.

Why are blaming students? The parents must supply the money right? Blaime them. Phone is now part of the IN things like it was with HOT ROD. Students died becouse of that. This is a good thing to gather info fast and to find people where are you? The funny thing about you don't mention driving and talking that is my concern not the use per say.

I don't think kids should be allowed to have phones in class. If they do have them they should be left in the vehicle and if they do not drive they should be put in their locker. Though Lockers get broken into so signing the phones into the office is a great idea.

I would love to see students with Tablet PC's in class though. It would make things easier for them to only have one thing to tote around (Textbooks can be read via Ebooks) from class to class. I own one for doing my college classes on and they are a life saver.

I think cell phone shoulb be left in the auto. or home only. Tablet pc,s should be allowed only at college level. Our kids aren't learning enough basics at lower levels of School.

In Hinsdale Township Public High School District 80, the stationary desktops were replaced with Toshiba Portege M200 Tablets. The school officals wanted to create better teacher and student interaction, so they choose the tablet instead of laptops. Laptops create a barrier between the student and teacher in which the student can hide behind. Both students and teachers are able to project their computer information onto a white screen. And with the ink annotation feature teachers are able to digitally annotate student work.

I'm not sure if it will increase the learning experience by keeping high school students interested in learning or if it will sadly fizzle out due to abuse of the machines. But I can not wait to use my tablet to teach my classes. I feel that by instructing students with a medium they are familiar with it keeps them from getting bored and also helps them develop a better understanding of Work skills. Many of us that go to college or business school after high school are familiar with having to learn Microsoft Office. If we can give the children a heads up on these skills perhaps it will be one less post-secondary class they will have to take.

But thats just from a Tabletter's point of view.

Oh and I might mention that the students in these Tablet schools can access the internet, but the pages and places they can go are often limited. As well as the programs on their tablets. Special locks are intergrated into the Operating System that allows an administrator to add software through use of a password system.

Its very technical and there are a few bugs to work out but, if we have good and honest students the problems seem to be fewer.

Go TO A fast food RESTAURANT and watch these young Graduates count money when thier machines don't work. You may get more money back than you gave them. This hapened to me with A high school senior. I was so amazed I just sit and watched and this kept hapening until someone had to help her.I am not slighting this person, i just felt sorry for her.

Did they try to count in their heads or did they use paper and pencil? Most of these kids around here are just at high school because the law says they have to go. Thats why I think I will hate being a high school teacher. Lack of motivation.

Some of it also has to do with the motivation their parents are giving them. If their parents are pushing them to do well and not letting them get by with B's and C's, they will be good students.

Children need to learn to count money in thier head and with paper and pencil at 4th or 5th grade. If they don't the teacher and parents have failed.Teachers seem to think all thier job consists of is assigning homework.

Some Teachers. Not all are lazy and only out for the money. It is a three-way street with education. The teacher has to instruct the students in a way that is conductive to the learning environment. The parent needs to teach the child that grades are important and learning is the child's job. Without parents helping the students or just going over the night's homework, students will think education is not important. The student has the responsibility to come to school and learn. They need to know they can't slack off and get away with it. Sure the real world is out there but students need to know that what they are learning is just as important as the real world. A few kids I went to high school with were just there because the law told them they had to be. Then before or during their senior year. They dropped out.

The teacher has to do their job, the parent has to do their job, and the student has to do their job. Without teamwork from all three sides, learning is impossible.

Oh and the reason homework is assigned is because students need to practice the skills they are learning. Think about exercising every day for 9 months and then you quit. When you go back to exercising again it is hard to do compared to if you just stayed with the exercising.

Okay, this is silly enough. You want to say those that drop out of school aren't going anywhere in life? F you, okay? My dad owns his own business, dropped out of school at 15, and made his own way in life. How's that for "education being everything" do tell... As for cell phones "being used to do business in bathrooms" just what the hell are you people reading? So kids text... big deal - its quicker than "passing notes" and often more discreet.

Let me ask you this, those of you who want the students to leave the phones out of the classrooms... What saved most students' lives during the Columbine shootings? THE CELL PHONES. How did parents know their kids were okay? THE CELL PHONES. If you don't like kids having cell phones in class, simple, take the kids phone from them when they head to school. Just remember you took their phone when you're complaining that they didn't call you when they wrap their car around a tree. Why? Oh, maybe because you took their phone? Go ahead and say it - cell phones cause wrecks. Okay, no, not paying attention causes wrecks... I drive 200-250 miles daily, I talk on my phone or text during most of this drive... Why? Music gets boring, I remember or forget something, yada yada it goes on. And ya know, never ONCE have I wrecked a vehicle because of my cell phone (however, I did hit a car at 18 because my Arby's drink fell under my feet and I couldn't hit the breaks... ya wanna ban cups, now?) and also, I dropped out of high school at 17 because I couldn't deal with the BS of other kids (too much damn drama), I made B's, C's and D's... Heaven knows it wasn't due to my cell phone (it was still on my person, but was turned off til breaks unless I needed to text my mom or something)... I got my GED at 17, was legally emancipated, on my own... and now I'm in COLLEGE with a 3.0 GPA. So don't even try & blame it on the phones! Why did the people some of you older ones went to school with drop out? Aww, must've been lack of motivation because they couldn't bring their CB radios in... My kid sister takes her cell phone to school, texts during school, is in honors class, they wanted to skip her up to 10th grade (she's really only supposed to be in 8th anyway), plays guitar, sings, is active in girl scouts, and STILL makes the all A honor roll. Let them have their phones, but parents should periodically check to see what types of picture messaging is being sent anyways, as kids today are far more advanced than even when I was in high school.

If they scrambled the service I believe that would violate FCC regulations. Not to mention some kids would stage an accident and then sue the school system for not being able to use their phone to call for help.

It's a great idea other than that.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Aries

Christmas Eve finds you happy and eager to get the most out of the day. You're in a rather sentimental mood, so if you've got time you'll relish the chance to watch a favourite film, especially if it means you've got to get out the hankies. A friend's kindness or sensitivity will delight you - and make you wonder how you can reciprocate.
