So, if i'm reading this correctly, it sounds like this brat fled the scene and got away with it. I hope Mr. Soliba sues the pants, or skirt, off of her.

The last time I looked, leaving the scene of an accident is a crime. Texting or using a cellphone while driving is a crime yet Torrance police Sgt. Bernard Anderson said
"There's no evidence to support a criminal prosecution," .
That's the car she was driving, she destroyed property, she left the scene and refused to come back to it. Can't prove the drinking as she knew how long to stay hidden. Which part of this is not a crime Sgt. Anderson and would you give someone else the same courtesy if they plowed into your block wall.

"Good job" to reporter Denise Nix on this story. Unlike the TPD who seems to have performed lazy and shoddy work to this case.

Carla Saliba said, "As parents, it's OK to embrace our children when they make mistakes," she said. "But at some point, you have to kick them in the rear and make them step up and take responsibility for what they've done."

Some of that quote can be applied to the TPD on this case. Except the TPD are not children and they are not allowed to make mistakes.

She has a prior DUI so speculation is rampant. A total rush to judgment. No one was hurt. This is an economic issue. Why anyone would care and cast dispersions is symptomatic of a twisted culture. If I wreck my car in your yard and do not want to stick around, day dream all day long and entertain your wildest illusions as to why I did not stay. Life gets busy and if your plants die too bad. My insurance or I will pay at a later date. Life has some rough roads and when your white picket fence get mowed over, my panties won't get in a bunch over it. The basis of this article is speculation and maligned. It defames the driver. I would consider a defamation suit.

Left the scene of an accident. Cut and dry. Why are some laws enforced and others not?

Looks like most of you do not understand the law. There is no requirement for a driver to stay at the scene of a property damage accident for the police or in this case the homeowner.
The only requirement is to identify themselves.
In this case the driver left a "proxy" to handle the matter and ID the driver.
Sure she was probably DUI, however she was able to successfully avoid prosecution. Maybe not moral or ethical, but totally legal under these circumstances.
As to texting or using the cell phone, yes this is a traffic violation, however the violation must be witnessed by a police officer for the violation to be enforced. That is simply the law.
Stop complaining about TPD, they did what they could legally do.

The driver should step forward, say I'm sorryy, and start helping to clean up the mess. Allowing young people to get away with bad behavior like this sends a message to others that it is OK because Mom & Dad will step in for her and insurance will cover the costs, which is wrong. Your attitude that is it OK for the young person to behave like this sends the wrong message, which is one of the reasons some young people are so confused. Judging by the addresses of the parties, they are neighbors and you do not treat your neighbors like this either.

get a life.. and a pair of glasses. Then, go to school and learn to read. Nothing impaled the house., perhaps a cactus. The world does not stop when your car does. When I'm done, I leave... you still stick around because mommy tells you too? Get out from under the rock !

if she lied and was drinking and her parents lied for her it will someday come back to her and them again hopefully if she was drinking and not stepping up to the plate the parents will get her and them the help they need because shes lucky no one was hurt or killed by her negligence. i would be very dissapointed in my children if they left the scene and not took responsibilty for their actions.teach your child the right way. thats whats wrong with this scenario the parents let her not take responsibility, so has she learned anything.

The point is, what happened was just wrong....If it really was just and unfortunate accident she should have stayed.

Unbelievable! This 25 year old has been taught NOTHING and I am mad as hell! Next time it will be someones mother or child that is trapped under her tires while she "reaches for her phone" and kills someone. My God, most of us can not 'look' at TPD wrong without getting pulled over or stopped and questioned. Why didnt they go to the home and look for her? Why should a family pay the price for something that destroyed their property? Something is missing and something is fishy.

This is the 2nd time the breeze has run a story on this non-story. Now we have a picture too ! No doubt provided by this whining Saliba guy, unless the breeze reporter actually responded to the scene. Doubtful as there are few breeze reporters left.

So what kind of undue influence does this whiner Saliba have on the daily breeze to cause them to waste all this ink and paper ? Thats the real 'story behind the story'.

This is a non-story because the babysaliba is being made whole. Insurance is fixing it. No big deal. Let it go brother ! let it go !

Intersting that the breeze can cover this like its the manson murders but the story of the Torrance officer who did an actual hit and run is off the radar.

You obviously don't work within the framework of the legal system. If the police do not have a witness placing the suspect behind the wheel during the incident, someone who can come forward and testify, then you have NO case. Yes its her car, yes her parents said she did it, and yet, without an actual witness, how do you expect a prosecutor to go forward, and a police agency to make an arrest without the evidence.
I can understand how you are upset about this, sorry outraged, but the police need evidence to arrest someone. It's not a situation of them dodging their responsibility, its about what they can prove. Before being snide and making unnecessary comments, learn how the law works and what is needed for an actual arrest. If you're that upset, go down and make a complaint at their department with your actual name on it. Then maybe someone can educated on how much officer's hands are tied with our liberal legal system!

Correction:(typo)
Then maybe someone can educate you on how much officer's hands are tied with our liberal legal system.

PS - It's always easier to take our your frustration on the police, rather than understand how these things actually work I guess.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Scorpio

Something that you've always taken for granted or believed implicitly could have a big question mark hanging over it during the next few weeks. The more entrenched your views are about this, the more difficult it will be to accept that perhaps it's time for a change of opinion or, at the very least, a revaluation of what you think. Mercury turns retro in your house of communications, so do your best to be open-minded now.
