Dish Network's Auto Hop feature offers commercial-free TV

Today, Dish Network has just released a new coolA feature for its digital video recorder that automatically removes commercials from shows aired by major broadcasting networks, hence, threatening to seriously cut billions of dollars in advertising.
I watch a lot of network programming during primetime, so having the Auto Hop feature work on PrimeTime Anytime shows with my Dish Hopper is perfect. Although I normally watch my shows the next day or later, what I really like about Auto Hop is that I don’t fumble with the remote in the dark as often any more. I prefer to watch TV without any distractions, so even though it can be difficult to even find the remote in the dark (much less the button), it is much more “enveloping” in the dark. A Dish co-worker of mine was over the other day and he saw me use the feature. He doesn’t have the Hopper yet, but he said he was getting one right away after seeing that feature.
Why don’t CBS, FOX, and NBC execs want consumers to enjoy commercial-free TV? It’s what we want! I’m a customer and employee of Dish, and I think AutoHop is great because you can easily watch commercial-free TV. A well known consumer advocacy group, Public Knowledge, agrees that people should have the right to control how they watch TV. They’re taking a stand for consumers by creating a petition that tells CBS, FOX, and NBC media to keep their hands out of your living room and DVR.
