Like rival Dish, DirecTV has access to technology that could allow millions of subscribers to automatically skip TV commercials, but executives don't see much reason to offer it to consumers.

How can DirecTV say nobody wants anything to do with commercial-skipping technology? People have wanted this for as long as TV has HAD commercials. I work at a Dish call-center, and all I do since Auto Hop came out is talk to people about it. I’m glad I’m not a DirecTV customer. Dish is going to bat for consumers both in court and in the labs, coming up with this kind of innovative technology that people want, and then defending it and making it available. All DirecTV can do is watch from the sidelines, hoping if things go well they can sneak across the finish line without anyone noticing they aren’t actually in the race.

I don’t understand why CBS, FOX, & NBC execs don’t want us to enjoy commercial-free TV. I’m a DISH employee – AutoHop is great because you can easily watch commercial-free TV. Public Knowledge, a consumer advocacy group, is taking a stand for consumers by creating a petition that tells CBS, FOX, & NBC media to keep their hands out of your living room & DVR. Sign their petition to keep control of how you watch TV http://bit.ly/KFdn1Q
