HD enthusiasts crying foul over cable TV's crunched signals

This is a shame - Comcast compressing HD into lower quality and RCN in Chicago giving us more HD channels but then scrambling the local HD channels to force rental of a STB for 2nd TVs (even though they are required to have the locals in the clear by the FCC - apparently assuming that carrying the lower quality SD channels is a loophole). Meanwhile prices continue to rise, we continue to pay for channels we don't want or need and when FCC chairman Martin tries to stand up for the consumer our own representatives side with the cable companies.

Why in the world would anyone use cable these "daze" when satellite TV is less expensive and offers a great signal?

HD may be free if you live in an area that can get a signal, but where I live, there are no good signals to be had because of hills blocking them, eventhough as a crow flies it's only about 8 miles from Sutro Tower (SF). I don't really need HD, but those in my area who want it for free on satellite ( EchoStar 6-8 and 7) can buy special free to air recievers made by PanSat, CoolSat, ViewSat and many more that recieve over 600 channels of all the locals, east coast network feeds, 10 porn channels, all PPV and premium movie channels. The HD recievers cost about $300.00 and a dual LNB dish with switch is about $100.00. Google Free To Air recievers.

I've been suspicious of Digital TV from the beginning. The hype is that the picture is better,but in reality it's all about Corporate Control over what we watch.
