November 6th, 2009 apx 4:30 PM, I was told to leave Sears at Polo Park in Winnipeg for no good reason. A couple of childish and malicious girls who work at cosmetics had an issue with me using the free cologne samples. It was my habit to often use the cologne samples. One day a plainclothes security guy confronted me and told me to go somewhere else. I asked who he was; he replied’ none of your business’. He said his girlfriend worked there. As I walked away he said...'make sure nothing bad doesn't happen to you...make sure you don't get hurt...' That was a few months ago. Today two security guards confronted me and told me I shouldn't be sitting in a chair with a coffee cup from the cafe. He also said that I had been told to leave the store in the past and not come back and that 'some girls' were 'afraid' of me...this is a TOTAL LIE!!! What happened is that some girl LIED to the security guard. I even called the general manager and told him of the incident a few months previous and said to him..'I don't want the security guard to get in trouble since he is young and naive and was told exaggerated tales..I told him I would avoid the cosmetics area - that was that. But apparently these childish and malevolent employees are too mean spirited to let it go and also too DISHONEST to tell the truth. This Sears store has employees who are not only malicious and vindictive for not good reason but also DISHONEST! I told the manager (General manager) the true story. I have lived in the neighbourhood all my life and have shopped at Sears and my mother and father have also and my neighbours. Since these people (Employees are so naive and dishonest and mean spirited) I would be glad to avoid the main floor where the cosmetics are but I need to shop on the second floor and mens wear which is not too close on the main floor. I don't wish to be embroiled or to bring Sears into a legal tussle that will not benefit anyone. I also always pay my bills there on the second floor (My Sears card and my mother's) that would be a sufficient compromise for me. I find it hard to believe I was arbitrarily kicked out of the store on the lies of some employee who is DISHONEST.

I thought it would be interesting to hear their side of the story after reading obo's. At the same time, these days give people a little bit of power and it can end up looking like the fourth of July.

Curious now to know if the writer is male or female. If male perhaps the make up sales staff felt ogled.

Why do you frequently hang out at Sears anyway? Do you have an old lady fetish?

Also, habitually using the cologne samples... that's not weird.

I think that the gossip and pettiness of these women is the 'real' crime here , not this guy. It is often the done with women - if they just simply don't like some person, male or female - they gossip..if that dosn't 'satisfy' their meanness and hatred they will claim they feel 'afraid' of someone..if it's a male of course. This is childish and immature. It shows that these women are not working enough and not dedicated to their work..too much time to gossip about the public who walk through the store..they spend more time gossiping than anything. I know that for a fact! This guy is a good citizen in the community and does more good than all these petty idiots put together. Some men are stupid enough to be used this way. The gaurds are idiots and the managment must be gutless to let this happen. These same women probably will gossip about the management and backstab them - it would serve them right too.

You are right on Sandra. Tell it like it is. And to 'truth' The story is this guy never did anything ilegal whatsoever - they watched him all the time (And gossiped obviously) and then finally made a big thing about the 'empty' coffee cup he was holding while sitting in an armchair. the fact is that it is all about malicious gossip and spitefulness Yet he was thrown out disrespectfully because of malicious gossip - that is the "truth". It is people (Empoyees) like those gossiping troublemaking ) women at Sears polo Park in Winnipeg Canada that are giving the whole city a bad name..we are getting a reputation in Canada - Just read the topix discussion 'winnipeg: Canada's worst city!!!' and read what kind of traits we have here. It is just the way these Sears employees are acting! This guy is a very nice person and has lived in the nearby neighborhood for years and knows a lot of people, including people who own and work in businesses in Polo, but he is too nice of a guy to gossip back the way these creeps did . but I am not so 'nice'.. He has helped a lot of people and people love this man. they should be ashamed of attacking and slandering a person of his calibre..

To Ellen/Sandra,

Can you please post with one handle? Your IP Addresses are the same, your writing is identical, and you both are delivering the exact same message. Not only that, the two handles originate from Stonewall.

Please, if you want to debate about how bad Sears Polo Park is, use ONE HANDLE. There is nothing more pathetic than one person posting as numerous names to make it look like others agree with you.

If this man is such a 'nice guy' why not name him Ellen/Susan/Obo? What other handles will you come up with next?

I wouldn't go quite that far. I suspect also that there might be more to this but...

Thank you Robin for letting the cat out of the bag. It IS all about vicious gossip isn't it? Don't be surprised if you are asked to leave a store while minding YOUR OWN BUSINESS. What gose around comes around.

I think they call abuse of power corruption also conspiracy is corruption and conspiracy is what those employees have done. Hmmmm...I think that may be more unethical or illegal than using cologn samples!!!

I am curious about this thread because it comes from my area but I don't have an opinion per se. It could be argued that by taking a "lot" of samples one is enjoying the equivalent of a bottle of product without purchasing it. The intent is pretty obvious, try a little buy a lot. They can't do too much about it,other than have someone leave, that might be what they did.

It isn't exactly ethical to abuse the process though not illegal. I would find it funny if he gave the samples to a girlfriend or something. Man on budget provides top of line perfume to girlfriend. Then I don't have to pay for the production of those samples.

Whatever, people can't help but question this man's complaint and situation. I note that he hasn't been back to respond to some of the comments or clarify. A few seem to know him but they don't offer a rational version either - just he is nice etc.

Roommates with the same writing style, complaining about the same issue, minutes apart from each other?

Please quit insulting the intelligence of the forum community. Meanwhile you may want to have that Multiple Personality Disorder checked out...

PS....I've never worked for Sears, and haven't shopped there for years. Although when I did shop there in the late 90's I experienced no problems whatsoever, and the cosmeticians were more than glad to provide free samples.
