I lived in Calgary for ten years and I have now been here 15 months. I was transfered here for an 18 month contract which ends in April. THen I am going back. I can be fully objective about these two cities. Comparing Calgary to Winnipeg is like comparing diamonds to dog shit!! Calgary is better than Winnipeg in almost every capacity. Take a look at the categories below: Economy: Calgary blows Winnipeg out of the planet LOcation: Calgary wins because of the mountains Entertainment: Calgary has more than Winnipeg. The Stampede beats anything here Weather: Calgary has better winters. more comfortable summers Crime: Calgary has far less crime-less natives Cleanliness: Calgary is the cleanest city on earth according to Mercer in LOndon. Family: I still think Calgary wins as a better place to raise a family. You don't have to worry about your kids getting mugged in bad areas. Downtown: Not even close. Calgary is better Attractiveness: Calgary is nicer than Winnipeg. It is cleaner and has the mountains in the background The only two areas that Winnipeg might have an edge is cost of living and less traffic. Some might like a slower pace, but that is a matter of preference. Calgary is Canada's future it is the best city in country right now. No questions asked. Winnipeg is the biggest shithole I have ever seen and I have been to Detroit and Buffalo. I think Winnipeg is worse. People who think it is great here must have a bloody I.Q of 9.

No shit Sherlock. You can't compare Calgary and Winnipeg just like you cant compare Winnipeg with Vancouver. Its two different things. I suggest you keep your mouth shut JamesK lest an aboriginal person shanks you and count the days till you go back home. God it so obvious Calgary is better get a life. Make the best out of what you are stuck with instead of whining about it.

Not everyone likes the mountains. It is unfortunate you are having such difficulty adjusting to your changed circumstances. Perhaps your transfer to Winnipeg was done as part of a grand design to teach you something about tolerance. Perhaps your boss just wanted to get you out of his hair. You sound like an arrogant ****. Your IQ comment is obnoxious and you probably are too. The prairies are beautiful and there is nothing like a prairie summer.

I was asked to oversee a project here in Winnipeg because I was the only one qualified to do it. I was offered a huge bonus because the boss knows how big a shithole Winnipeg is. I get a tax free bonus of almost $40,000. I was also given 20 free return trips to Calgary over this 18 months for 3 days each. This city is a pathetic piece of monkey shit and I am counting the days till I get back. Ask a 1000 people what is more beautiful the flat prairie land of Winnipeg or the Rockies in Calgary's background. I think you know what the response would be.

No one else could do the work and there are not many jobs in my field. I can't afford to lose my job. I am 2 months from leaving and I get 10 days off in early March. I am leaving this shithole as I have paid my dues for 15 + months. I have sucked it up, froze my balls off, and almost went insane.

People who think this city has alot going for it. What? Natives,-40 weather, welfare jobs, crime, filth, stagnation. This city looked o.k in 1950, but now it is a pure shithole. It is one thing to say you like it because of family and you grew up here, but to say this city is great for other merits is really lame.

You could always get another job. You sound like you're just a whiner. First you said you were given an offer you couldn't refuse. Now the story is you had no choice. Yeah, find someone else to blame. That's your problem. You are just a very negative person and rather than trying to make the best of circumstances you play the complain & blame game. I know people who are happy to be here because they come from countries where there is no freedom and they kill you if you whine too much. Unlike Winnipeg where that doesn't happen. We listen to all your whining. They are very happy to be in Winnipeg. I know people who have terminal illnesses and really have something to complain about but DON'T. They make the most of every precious moment they have left. Maybe, James, you ought to meet some of these people. Then you would know what a real winner is. In the meantime, you are a whiner and a loser and you need to get a life.

How about: excellent opera company, symphony orchestra, and live theatre? Perhaps this is too much culture for you. And speaking of aboriginals, the aboriginal community has some great recording artists. Maybe if you weren't such a racist you would value that instead of running down the aboriginal people and their culture.

The people who love it here are the real losers because it shows that they do not go anywhere else or are trapped here. James has every right to express his displeasure about being in Canada's most pathetic city, just as someone has the right to complain about having a terminal illness.

Living in this city causes mental torment for some as they have a hard time connecting themselves and they can't stand the cold or the mosquitos in the summer. Sure there are worse scenarios, but i get how people can be frustrated with life in Winnipeg. You should not scorn people for complaining about Winnipeg as this is the appropriate avenue to do so. My friends brother committed suicide 4 years ago because he became depressed here. Again, I can see how this city can negatively affect people

Calgary is better than Winnipeg in almost every capacity: Economy, location, weather, entertainment, crime, cleanliness, quality of infrasture. Almost every poll will verify this. Do you challenge this? I grew up here so I like Wpg based on what I am used to, but it can't compete with CAlgary. You must realize this as this is what this thread is mostly about.
