Hotdog was a very popular talking crow who made his home in the Winnipeg Zoo.A hot dog vender had a cart and pushed it around the park,calling out "Hot Dogs" "get your red hot Hot Dogs" This crow appeared one day,and would mimic the sales pitch perfectly. He flew freely,and could be heard all over the park,advertising Hot Dogs. He was in the Winnipeg Free Press,and most other local news papers.Somewhere he learned to say "I can talk,Can you fly?" He spoke very clearly and was cool and so unique. Sadly he also learned to swear,and was removed or maybe put down.

You can confirm what I have written about HOTDOG. This story is not made up.Several newspapers wrote about HOTDOG and if you check the archives you will find those stories. Ask local people who visited the Winnipeg zoo in the early 1960's.I am 64 and saw HOTDOG many times,also heard him talk,as did thousands of other park visitors.Don't just write this off,check it out. Just a very interesting tid bit of Winnipegs history. There must be many people who recall HOTDOG. |
