Where is a good place to get a great haircut here? Even the local TV personalities have terrible haircuts. Do I have to go to Vancouver?

If you're still looking for a stylist. You should try Erin Fitzpatrick @ Features Spa & Salon. She moved here from California where she went to school at the Vidal Sassoon Academy for hair.

She's really good and is hoping to open her own salon soon, here in Victoria.

First, watch out in BC barbers/hair cutters are NO LONGER monitored by any association or regulation, I have met with many that have really bad cleanliness standards...
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

also arq are a really bad and expensive place to get a haircut.(waste of money)
I went there and had to go to someone else after I was butchered to do damage control...

It must have been an arq employee that posted that post because as far as I am concerned there are not too many (if any decent) hairdressers in Victoria!

Note: Ever noticed why they do not call themselves "HAIRDRESSERS" in Canada, because there are none. I guess you have to be able to dress someones hair to carry that title.

I had the same really bad experience as Sheila by one of the owners at Arq on Douglas St. He completely fried my hair, the blonde highlights turned an awful pink and orange. He told me I had wait a week to have it re-bleached which I lasted about a day before saying forget it, dying it all dark. Then he tried to blame it on me telling me it was my fault that I didn't know what I wanted --- hello, blonde highlights is what I wanted... how is that not knowing what I wanted??? Of course he had to say something in front of the other clients and stylists so he didn't look like a complete idiot who obviously had no clue what he was doing.
Since then I've gone to Fish and the Fix. Both have good.

Ironically Vancouver doesn't boast the same amount of talent or exports as the local stylist cache. Victoria has more exported stylists that work in the upper end of the hair industry than any other city in canada.

I realize that people are hopping to get a great cut for cheap prices, but hair stylists spend a fortune on education and equipment. Salon space is not cheap and stylists charge for their time.

An average cut and color in Vancouver salons will run you $225, Toronto $250, Victoria $150.

FYI the reason we don't say hairdresser is because most stylists find it a durogatory term. When was the last time you saw someone wearing a hair dress? It's the same reason we don't say stewardess, we say flight attendant. Stylists style hair.......... Hair dresser isn't a title, it's an insult

I agree with Bobby. It seems like everyone I know goes there, and I really like the website! It made it easy to pick a stylist that I liked. And booking online! It's about time someone figured that out.

Oh and I love my hair

I agree! There are some really great stylists in Victoria. I especially like the bumble salons. They send their stylists to New York for training. Alchemy's great. Like the staff there. Shampoo is good too. Fish also. Lots of great talent in vic!

So far as I can tell Lab Salon on Johnson st is the best salon in Victoria. I have been to lots since i moved here for university a few years ago. Lab is the first place where I feel like the people actually care about what they do and aren't snotty or pretentious. I really like Jane there.

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Virgo

It's okay to have high expectations, but try to keep in mind that no one can be all things to all people. As the Moon spends one last day in its current sign, it urges you to find a way to recognize others for their strengths, and forgive them their weaknesses. Virgoans' idiosyncrasies must look like strange quirks from the outside as well! Fate ties up the loose ends towards the end of the day.
