You sow what you reap, the prisons are full of innocents, perhaps she is no exception. People have to try to understand she was not convicted in Canada and as a result has to serve her sentence as the laws dictate in another country. The stick we hold is not as strong outside Canada. When will people in this country get it???

You reap what you sow... look it up in the bible. She is innocent and her boss claims that as well. She did nothing wrong. What is wrong with the world is horrible people like you that wish the worse on this poor women. Yes, people need to be aware of laws in other countries. However, this is women does not deserve to be in a jail. And if you would read the story she has not been convicted in Mexico yet. You make me sick pa pa d.

When will people in this country get it??? How did she reap what she sowed? She went to Mexico to find work. I'm sure if she knew she could be arrested, instantly presumed guilty, and then held in jail for 2 years without a trial she would never have moved there in the first place. Hardly reaping what she sowed. You're wrong when you say people in Canada don't get it. We understand, but when it comes to a countrys justice system which Amnesty International describes as "so flawed that some people are committing murder without being charged, while others are jailed on trumped-up charges with no chance to defend themselves." We believe we should take a stand for our fellow citizens because these are basic human rights we're talking about.

Anyone who intentionally goes down into Mexico deserves whatever they get. That is one big corrupt cesspool.

Can you explain how one would go to Mexico unintentionally? Maybe you meant "anyone who decides to go down to Mexico deserves whatever they get." Well I like your way of thinking. Actually we might as well say that anyone who walks around downtown Toronto at night deserves to be stabbed because it's one giant cesspool down there. Is this seriously your logic? I have a feeling you rarely have sympathy for people who get in difficult situations because it's always their stupidity that is the problem.

How do you unintentionally go to Mexico? Anyway.. So she deserved what she got? Just like anyone who walks downtown Toronto at night deserves to be stabbed because it is one giant cesspool down there? Your logic boggles my mind. Nobody deserves to be treated like she has. I don't care if it's a Canadian or Mexican citizen either. Their system is a joke down there and I just hope she is returned to Canada safely.

There is a case right now in El Paso where an American soldier traveling through did just that. He went into Mexico because he didn't get off a particular road soon enough and he's sitting in a Mexican prison. Yes you can unintentionally end up in Mexico. Not too common but it happens. Anyone who actually means to go there, ignoring all the common sense that would tell them don't go, deserves what they get.

This woman should have realized what Mexico is about before she went there. You don't mess around down there. They love to arrest Americans and Canadians and extort money. If I want to vacation in Iraq, would a bad outcome be at least partly my fault?

Yea, I agree with you on most of that. I still think it's unrealistic to think everyone should learn all the laws of every country they visit. Especially somewhere like Mexico... In Canada we commercials on TV promoting travel to Mexico and have super cheap flights to try and encourage tourists to go there. Maybe the government should step up a little and let people know of the risks. I'm not sure really, I just know I'm not going to Mexico anytime soon.
