Mexican official hopes case of jailed Canadian woman will be resolved soon
“We have no closer and more important neighbours than Canada and Mexico.”
- Mexican Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa said Tuesday she was hoping for movement in the coming weeks in the case of a Canadian woman held for more than two years in a Mexican jail without trial.
Espinosa said the trial of Brenda Martin has been delayed by legal procedures. She said her ministry was in frequent contact with the Canadian government about the case.
"And of course, there has been very broad access to Miss Martin - so broad that she has been able to give press conferences from where she is," Espinosa said, referring to telephone and TV interviews from her prison. Read more
