Residents voice concerns about proposed subdivision
The Brampton Guardian Thursday October 8 2009 By Cynthia Gamble, staff writer print this articlePrint this article email this articleEmail this article BRAMPTON - It was standing room only when close to 100 residents turned out to hear about the proposed Eden Oak Creditview Heights subdivision in the Civic Centre’s council chambers Monday night. The 33-lot residential development would be built on 8.25-hectare (20-acre) hillside property bordering Georgetown and Glen Williams’s boundary line. Thirty-one lots will have water and wastewater services, but two of the 33 will be severed from the property to front onto existing streets. These lots would be on partial services. A number of Glen and Georgetown residents spoke at the meeting, concerned about: • Stormwater management and the potential flooding of their properties • Proposals to extend/connect Ann and Gamble Sts., leading to cut-thru traffic • Impact on Glen Williams residents’ wells, grading, loss of green space and the impact on wildlife including some Ontario species at risk, • The number, style and configuration of the homes, street pattern and topography, • Lack of notification • Limited buffer zone to protect existing residents’ property • Conformity to Town, Region Official Plans and Glen Williams Secondary Plan • The timing of water allocation to the property. Halton Hills council made no decision on the proposal Monday night, but did approve Ward 2 Councillor Joan Robson’s motion to add the Glen Williams Community Association (GWCA) as a party to all discussions between the Town and the developer, Eden Oak. The Town and other agencies such as the CVC have concerns as well such as road layout, grading, a second egress for emergency access, and tree preservation. Eden Oak’s planning consultant Dave Matthews said this was the beginning of a consultative process and his client was prepared to work with the community to refine the development. More details about the development proposal are contained in a planning report, PDS-2009-0094, available on the Town’s website, www.haltonhills.ca . The deadline for public comment is Nov. 6. The planning department will then prepare a recommendation report to be presented to council at a future meeting. |
