Federal study suggests relocating EI recipients to regions with labour needs

With the exception of a few provinces that tend to have higher unemployment rates than others ALL provinces have an unemployment rate. Often it does not relect the real world. Many people have moved from EI to Social Assistance once their benefits have become depleted and they too continue to look for work.

Currently many jobs have requirements that do not reflect the skills required to do them. Usually businesses are asking for more than they need. On top of that most have to provide some form of training even if they do have a qualification that is specified ie a grade twelve graduate or even a person with a BA may not know how to use a cash register or handle money the way an employer would like it to be done.Those skills are not taught in high school or university. Call Centre jobs, pumping gas, cleaning in many places such as daycares,hospitals, nursing homes,cafeteria jobs,filing and so on. They are learned on the site.

Employers should have to justify why certain qualifications are required. Therefore a young mom in New Brunswick with a grade eleven education would not be screened out for such a job just because she does not have grade twelve.She can learn to use the cash register and handle money if she has the aptitude which grade 12 and BA grads would also have to have.

Why would anyone want to send a New Brunswick single parent to a different province for minimum wage when she will lose free childcare or at least respite from extended family. At home she may have someone close to her who is willing to go down to the end of some road late at night to pick her up from the convenience store job when the bus no longer operates or the 3-11 shift at a hospital ends.

There have been moving incentives in place for many years but to insist on making someone move for minimum wage without taking into consideration if other benefits at home aren't as valuable seems a bit conservative and foolish.

Jobs that require and depend on on-site training should not ask for ridiculous qualifications.

The government should do a lot more for seniors in New Brunswick and give them a 20% discount on their utilities.

Well your grandfather may have had to illegal jump trains with thousands of other men during the depression to go and find work elsewhere ( places that it didn't exist either primarily) but that waqsn't right either.
