“I find that there is a circumstantial connection between the hate speech of Mr. Boissoin and the CCC and the beating of a gay teenager in Red Deer less than two weeks following the publication of Mr. Boissoin's letter”
An Alberta man who has pressed for five years to get an anti-gay letter branded as hate literature won a victory Friday with a human rights commission ruling that said it broke provincial law and may even have ... via CANOE

1 Wow, gay folks who desire to live and work productively in society, free from fear and harassment, discriminate against those who seek to cause the fear and perpetrate the harrassment? I didn't know harming others was a constitutional right. |

1 As despicable as I find his letter a letter doesn't harm others. Whoever beat up the gay teenager is to blame, not some letter. Whoever did that most likely was already against gay people and would've done so anyways. People are responsible for their own actions. Nobody's expression of opinion forces anybody to do anything. Plus all the letter did was express the opinion that homosexuality is immoral. As much as I disagree with that opinion saying something is immoral is not the same as inciting violence. If it had actually expressed approval of violence then that's another thing, but just because someone says something is immoral doesn't mean they are approving of violence. I think the war in Iraq is immoral. Do I approve of using violence to try and stop the war in Iraq? NO. But if this stands as precedent then any speech, right or wrong speaking out against anything is vulnerable. |
