What companies will hire felony drivers? Next to having a bad DAC Report what companies will hire felony drivers is the second most asked question I get. Apparently there is a large amount of felony truck drivers with past felonies who are looking for jobs. First off there is no website I can find that has a list of companies that hire felony drivers. It is going to take some work on your part.

There was a time when anyone could drive a truck with little to no education or criminal background. Those days have changed. Especially if you are a felony truck driver.

Even with a felony you can apply with any company, and there is a chance you can get a trucking job. But there are a few things you need to know first. Some of these companies are willing to review applicants with felonies but not all. Read more at

2 things-1, it is hard for anyone to find a good job right now with 100s of thousands of million-mile/ no chargeable accident drivers laid off. 2nd, all companies (not just trucking) are checking backgrounds and most will not hire anyone with ANY criminal convictions, even minor misdemeanors let alone felonies. They even check your credit rating, they reason someone with severe money problems is more tempted to steal from them. Unless you have a close relative who is high up or even owns the company, chances of getting hired are 0.0 percent.

With the slow economy, companies certainly are far more strict with their hiring standards than ever before. Felonies within the past 7 years will disqualify you from most companies. A felony anytime in your lifetime will disqualify you from some. Now the FMCSA has begun a new program that will keep track of everything you do in a truck and make the info available to trucking companies. I wrote a blog on the program and you can read it here: http://www.truckingtruth.com/trucking_blogs/a...

Recent grad applying my ace off, no felonies, ever. Had a suspension in 92 listed as 3 speed misdem just resolved and yeah my credit is shot to hell after all my med duty trucks went this year. DMV forgot about it for 17 years until I passed cdl-A permit. So I'm now applying at other industries now. Waiting on my DAC as there's a problem I'm sure. Someone stating drivers with felonies? I don't really see that happening. Trying like hell but, realistically if it ain't my own truck at this point I doubt I'll be in one, what a waste of time and money this industry has been. Driving record prior to TT driving career improvement spotless back to 94. Further back but, that's all the abstracts I have on hand. At least I have a license saying (A) and a bunch of endorsements for what I don't know now? School was useless as well for placement, they can't return a call except to get you in a class. At least the DOT paid for that so I'm not out too much except the business that went out to train for this. Back to where I was a decade ago or so. What a waste! File the B and start over again. No wonder so many drivers are pissed off here! It's driving a truck not rocket science. How strict do they need to be to haul a load of buttwipe, lumber, or any other non hazmat stuff around really?

If you got the A license, keep it, don't downgrade back to a B license. You can drive anything on an A license that you can on a B license (big tow trucks, etc.) and then when and if the job market improves you have the A license you will need.(Illinois) Class A: "All single and combination vehicles except cycles", "Endor T-Dbl/Trpl Trlr, X-Tank/HazMat". Is it different in NY state? The class A might be useful for example if you need to tow a disabled tractor with trailer.

Too much work to earn the A to downgrade it. Used to work with a guy that had the C-with Towing and let it go, then asked me to drive. Only endorsements I don't have are passenger or hazmat. Still searching for any work at this point, try again in a year if trucking is picking up. If not keep on recovering and buy a used semi unit in 3-5 yrs without payments! 20K or so for a truck and triple car haul trailer? If trucks are going for that low as seen on comm truck trader a lot of guys more experienced are out of their trucks, that's sad and appalling!
Midnightrider NY-A has T-double/triples, M-Metal Coils(for flatbed?missing on many apps online), N-Tanker, W-Towing, then the X-hazmat, or P?-passenger last two I don't have or really want. Enough responsibility for loads that can't walk, talk, or toxic/explosive. Maybe hazmat 1-200K miles later but at start is enough to haul regular freight. Never let the A go been a dream since I was a kid, now I have it. History of 3-father like figures in trucking so I'm just getting there a little slow so far. 2 Died years ago 1 in his O/O truck in Chicago, 1 had to find a new job last fall last time I saw him at the Ambest when fueling my quad cab trailer hauler. Best of luck to all drivers/or newbees out there.
