Its simple, ups wants to be neutral. They don’t want to upset either side. So if the employees bad-mouthed obama that would make the company look bad in the eyes of people whom like obama. If the employees praised obama they that would make the company look bad in the eyes of the people who hate obama.

Either way that could hurt ups. So they don’t allow employees to talk without approving what they say as long as they are on company property or wearing ups uniforms, they are representing the company. They are a business to make money.

So your two comments are false, it has nothing to do with government censorship, just corporation censorship which is with in their right to protect their business.

As for the military, if you bad-mouth bush they would have written you up also. The president (no matter who it is) is your boss (Commander and Chief) and if you talk bad about your boss (or his wife) you could get written up or even fired.

I worked for a company where the boss yelled and treated all his employees like dirt, one day (and after 3yrs of his treatment) I was fired when a machine that had a part broken for a while, gave out he had an employee put his hands in this running machine to hold the part in place, until the panels were done. Seeing that the employee could be seriously injured I said “rich (the boss) needed to get off his butt and fix the machine before someone gets hurt”. The manager told rich that and he fired me, I told unemployment that I said,“he needed to get off his F-ing fat ass and fix the F-ing machine” which is not what I said exactly.

FYI I heard an employee was hurt by that same part a couple of days later.

How could your principles allow you to continue working in that situation where your dissent and expression are squashed?

You have the talent to survive on your own merit, or should. If you want to espouse your political dissent quit and get a better paying job in a free and open employment environment where your views are encouraged and appreciated.

It's should not matter that the President is your boss. Free yourself and, take a Stand for liberty!

Good.

Did you learn your lesson? Next time, keep your mouth shut when on duty, do your work, and keep your stupidity to yourself.

Woof, See above, The Liberal poster expresses very well the Progressive attitude toward FREEDOM OF SPEECH. What do you think Progressives' think of the rest of the Bill of Rights?

The poster stated that he worked at a military base from that it is hard to tell whether he is military or a civilian employee. As for the comment concerning Obama being the boss- in the military there are two sets of guidelines- officers are restricted in what they can say about the commander in chief, enlisted a lot less restricted. Also, based on civil service rules just because a civil servant bad mouthed the boss it would not necessarily be grounds for a right-up, this was enacted to limit political influence over government workers.

Now THERE'S a non-news story. FYI, many, many companies insist on pre-approving interviews with employees. They try to avoid having people say embarassing things to the media, especially on company time and property.

Like it or not, it's pretty standard. Has nothing to do with Obama or who the company likes or dislikes politically. Naturally, an anti-Obama rag like the Murdoch St. Journal will pretend otherwise.

Glad you got written up. Anyone attacking his commander-in-chief's wife should probably be given a dishonorable discharge.

Woof, ChiGuy, In this case the UPS employees were EXCUSED FROM WORK to attend Obama's speech. The reporters tried to talk to them, and the employees were stopped from replying, mid-sentence. It is clear the "UPS" audience was another "set-up audience" required to applaud Obama, and the reporters were not allowed to find this out. We know who in History used these tactics, don't we?

Another extremist and partisan hiding behind the Constitution. No wonder you're so worried about protecting it, you constantly use it to justify your hypocritical attacks on others.

Aren't Cons big on responsibility? Are you aware that with rights come such responsibilities? Quit whining.

I LOVE the Bill f Rights. However, there is no right to 'freedom of speech' in any work place. And like ANY other right, in a civilized society, freedom of speech comes with restrictions.

The event was AT A UPS FACILITY, dummy. The employees were on the clock, presumably.

And as the other posters correctly said, nearly ALL corporations keep a gag order on official press contact with their employees. That is SOP for businesses.

It wasn't instigated or caused by the White House. Any insinuation to the contrary is absurd, and not reflected remotely in the story.
