I am total disapointed with Volvo and the D16. I have codes on the dash coming up over the years and the codes shut down my engine. Does anyone know if' broken data link and engine default' would be a bad Engine ECU ?

gladman wrote: Volvo put another injector + cup set and looks like I have 95% of my power back. I also got a new turbo and 7th injector out of it as well. I only have 180K on my truck so they seem to be willing to pay for it all. Volvo has been pretty good about fixing everything, I guess due to the very low kms. No one seems to know what was wrong with the other set of injectors/cups. I am so sorry, but your problems will just continue over and over.

Apparently dealer 1 never bothered to reattach the airline to the 7th injector or reattach the wiring harness. They also left out on an air regulator that wad never put on with the solenoid kit. The 7th injector was too badly plugged and had to be replaced. The fuel regulator to the 7th injector had to be replaced. $2500 later it seems to have done its first regen, although it never tells you if it is successful. There is also no indicator of soot level without a laptop, so you never really know where you are, especially if it isn't reporting level 1 or 2 warnings. Without this insanely complex and burdensome emission system the truck would probably be fine. Thank your local ecoterrorists for this nonsense.

Well Another update in the Saga. Truck in for safety inspection. have complained of exhaust in cab. Result the techs found that the slip joint in the exhaust manifold is scored and the gaskets worn. Apparently Volvo knows of issues relating to this 3 piece design of the exhaust manifold as there is now a new updated (OLD) one piece casting available. Problems start now: parts and labour to install new updated parts in neighborhood of 3000.00. Tried to just get them to reseal the existing manifold but they have no guarantee that it will not be leaking again as the cast is scored at the joint. So checked my warranty papers ( I have only the base warranty left had the 3 year platinum but expired) it states that the exhaust manifold casing is covered for 5 years and 805,000 kms. So i believe that Volvo should be covering this part and the extended parts to update and the labour less the gaskets as they are a wear part covered only for 12 months. Already I am haviong the talk with the service manager who is summiting the claim and he says possibility of rejection because the casing is not cracked in any way casing failure. I claim that the scoring at the joints is a failure as new gaskets within the joint will not seal as per service lead hand. Also it would apopear that the updated parts from Volvo signals to me anyway of a defect in product and they acknowledge it by the redesign. Well we will see. I know that Volvo regional managers check in and monitor this site as I have been contacted and asked to clarify some of my posts in the past. So Please Volvo DON'T SCREW ME AGAIN. History will show that I have had my share of problems and Extensive downtime from issues with the design of this truck specifically the D16 Engine and i am due one break from the all powerful VOLVO NORTH AMERICA.

AS a post script to the last posting I would like to ask VOLVO also why i can not get a answer as to why my DPF designed truck that had clean pipes for two years now emits black tar like syrup from the pipes and when I will possibly get a answer as to when they may replace my passenger side fuel tank that is totally deformed at the front where the DPF has heated the aluminum to melt it and a 3 inch bulge as formed at the lower half. By the way for VOLVO reference my last six is 490320
