What about this trucker's strike...
High fuel cost.
Don't fill up for one day...
What is that supposed to fix?

Some LTL companies will train you to drive while you make a reasonable wage working on the dock. Check with ABF, Yellow, Fedex Freight, Southeastern. If you can get on, you get a win win. Life on the road is very tough. A couple of those companies have online applications. ABF https://www.abfs.com/about/jobs/apply/AppRedi... Yellow http://www.myyellow.com/dynamic/services/cont... Fedex. http://fedex.hodesiq.com/careers/job_search.a... Good luck! |

or check with their state employment office. there used to be a program called jtpa.(job training partnership act). If qualified, there are different fields of training they pay for. Trucking should be a last resort.

drive for usa. they will take care of of all your problems. in less than one month your wife and kids will be eligable for food stamps, medi-cade and the local charities will pay your utility bills. shop is a joke, bbut they sure no how to use a impack wrench, it takes dispatch at least 1 hour to answer the phone. no work, sit on your butt, light up a camel, cause you just found the promise land

thank you I will try those .... and I know that it isn't going to be easy out there on the road, but that is my dream to drive a truck since I was young, now my children are grown and I have to try to live my dream .... |

Get the classes at a community college if you can. Sometimes there are "workforce transition retraining" grants or some other job training money that they would know about. When you complete the training, they can tell you about what companies to avoid. Also, at least you would not be in the situation of having to work for a bad company for a year or owe them for the training. Right now it is sort of a paid hobby, don't plan on making a living. You can sure get a deal on a truck, just look at the ones in parking lots with for sale signs. Don't buy anything until you have work lined up. Ask to ride with other drivers for a week or so. You will get a lot of knowledge about the company the "recruiter" won't tell you about. Good luck!(I don't recommend going into this business at this time.) |

well, if you have dreams that include long lonely nights in the middle of a mountain pass wishing you could climb into the sleeper for a nap, don't apply to those I gave you. They run legal, and trucks with sleeper births are team trucks. I did run solo long haul for 8 years, and if it wasn't for wanting to be home with my family, I would've been happy. But, I was just starting a family, yours are out and gone. You might love it, for a while. Just don't lose your sense of humor. |
