Hey Leo, we can do this without giving up our right to ownership of our trucks as the Teamsters want you to do. Don't be fooled by the propaganda these folk are spreading on their so-called clean truck plan. The Teamsters are behind this CTP to wipe out the owner/operator trucker. The pollution facts have even been tainted by falsifing reports of actual diesel particulates in the air to move their "ban the owner/operator campaign". The teamster goal here is to get rid of us with an employee driver mandate attached to the clean air plan so that it makes their job easier to organize. The greedy ba$tard$ are only interested in the potential of millions of $$$ in union dues and don't give a d@mn about what our needs really are or that of the general public. If this was about cleaning the air they would be figuring out a way to move the line of stalled trucks stuck idling at the interchange lanes or stacked up in the port waiting to be mounted or demounted. We would have pre-inspected chassis ready to go instead of spending wasted time riding around searching for a decent road worthy one inside the port for extra hours every week. NO, they don't want to expose those issues because of the special deals they have made with certain port authorities to back their clever clean air-ban the O/O plan. The Teamsters leadership has turned out to be worse than the trucking companies when it calls for telling the truth. We need to organize among ourselves. Dump the Teamsters!!!!! |

Yes, dump the Teamsters just like they dumped the owner operator trucker at the ports. We told these guys here at the very first meeting they were full of sh*t when they claimed they would help us get a contract while remaining O/O's. Now everyone can plainly see just what they are doing to the trucker. There leadership is a pack of lying RATS!

If we need union representation it should be with the ILA International Longshoremen union. They control the docks not the Teamsters. We had a chance to go that way twelve years ago before the Teamsters came in here & screwed it up with their promises of helping the owner operator. The ILA was going to hand us an ILA trucker charter & show us how to operate a hiring hall designed for O/O's to haul cans from the piers but then came the Teamsters. Now we have nothing but a mess from these people & their clean truck campaign to abolish the O/O completely. I hope the idiots that wanted the Teamsters in our business are happy now. It's time to stop them dead in their tracks before it is to late. Hoffa is nothing like his daddy but only a greedy corporate lawyer out for what he can grab along with his cronies at the top.

Amen to that sir. The longshoremen need us worse than we need them just to hold on to what they have now.I'm sure their rank-n-file members would be more than willing to help us organize in the harbor. It would make for a very strong marriage. The Teamsters have managed to piss off every trucker moving containers with their determination to ban the o/o trucker from working. Maybe they'll take a long look at their flawed leadership decisions when it comes to grassroot organizing efforts next time. They sure don't know anything about how to win trucker support.

The trucking industry is going to hell. These big companies are trying to put the O/O out of buisness but they forget that the O/O's are the ones who built the trucking industry. Unless truck drivers stand up to these states and counties its never going to change. I hear drivers that say that they are afraid to shut down because they will lose their jobs. There is such a shortage of truck drivers that this will never happen. Good luck to you drivers in California

Judged: 1 1 1 I hope the drivers win, but it will be a long shot. The FEDERAL fair labor standards act exempts various groups of employees from overtime. Truck drivers that haul interstate freight, and/or paid by percentage, flat rate, by mileage, or anything except hourly is exempt from overtime. Intrastate can be regulated by state laws, but the freight always has to originate and deliver within the same state.(Gravel dump trucks that stay in one state for example are intrastate.) In so far as owner-operators organizing a union, any strike by them is against some law of "restraint of trade". A political solution is needed, changing these laws. Also they need to bring back regulation of trucking rates,(I am old enough to remember when trucking was a regulated prosperous industry). Otherwise owner operators will be driven out of business, and just a handful of companies like Swift will control all trucking. |

Judged: 1 1 1 They have good reason to be afraid of losing their jobs. They could end up fired, bad DAC report, and unable to find a job. It is not fair, but they are looking at it realistically. |

F..k the Teamsters Union!!!! May Hoffa continue to rot in his unknown grave.

Judged: 1 1 1 Excellent point.Another reason as I have always said that Swift Mgmt, including CEO Moyes SUCKS THE BIG ONE and f---the driver as you say every time! Swift partnering with Teamsters only to monopolize port business at exclusion of independent O/O's who prefer to remain independent over being leased to Swift or having to join union for admission to ports. |
