Why you should care about truckers

Truckers are just another cog in the wheel. They are not special, not heroic, not knights of the road. They are doing a difficult job, but then, so is the drive thu window person at Mcdonalds, or the nurse, of the taxi driver.

Not much.They are a self important group as a whole. They are just another cog in the wheel.

i am married to a trucker and my brother was a trucker. my brother was killed trucking delivering the goods that you either eat drink, wear--all of it. my husband has been trucking for a long time and you need to try to drive a mile in his shoes before you start dishing the trucker

I have been Trucking since 1989, I have delivered in every state and 5 Provinces of Canada. Run almost every mile of every interstate and most state routes,so I have driven in his shoes.
Sorry for your loss. I have lost a few good friends in Truck accidents and my brother on a motorcycle.
It's not a knights of the road thing any more, it's a job. It takes some tenacity to get it done but many truckers I wouldn't allow in my front door. They are the lowest common denominator.
If you go to an area where most truckers(the loudmouths) couldn't do the job and you will find some real knights of the road. Otherwise there is a bunch of people holding a steering wheel.

Aren't you quite the "Billy-Big-Rigger". Truckers like you are the reason trucking is so FkD up. You don't worry about a paycheck with benefits, you're concerned with chicken lights and chrome lugnut covers. You wouldn't stick together on any issue that concerns truckers as a whole. No you would stab a trucker in the back just as long as it doesn't affect you. So you "say" you have been driving a truck since 1989? Was it ever a "Knights" of the road thing? I bet your name is Sonny Pruitt and you have a co-driver that's a chimp. You left out the part, "I've backed up more miles then you've drove forward". I'm sure you've backed up more miles, going backwards in your J.B.Hunt large unit backing down a hill because you missed a gear.

What I don't like it the Attitude I hear from many of the truck drivers I see a the flying J. I don't know how many times I have heard a truck driver say If that car wouldn't have gotten out of my way I would have just ran over his ass. Many not all but Many truck drivers think they own the road. Yes they do pay more in tax's but it doesn't mean they own the roads. There are many of the truck drivers I have seen at the J that shouldn't even be on the road because they are a danger to society. Lack of sleep drinking beer in the parking lot and driving 14 hours a day and then comming into to the resturant and falsifying there logs. Then I have heard them say what they don't know won't hurt me. Some of the truck drivers I have seen at the J are really scary.

Yes, most jobs have difficulties, but usually they get paid for the time. Some drivers and companies (Con-way, etc.) pay and treat drivers fairly. Sadly, many more are losing money and take it out of the drivers. It is a race to the bottom and ends up being SUB-MINIMUM wage job. It is time to re-regulate trucking and bring drivers under the Fair labor standards act.

i was not trying to sound like a bitch, i was just saying for all those people that say truckers are nothing but assholes. some of my dearest friends are truckers, and yes, there are some that i wouldnt let near my front door either, there are alot of them out there that would give you the shirt off of their back. i am sorry for your loss also, but alot of us gotta stick together, cuz truckers have one crazy, hazardous job and are away from their families often just to keep this country alive

I have a job with benefits. over 3 million miles and I am a knight of the road. Rather than getting a one finger salute, I get a wave of gratitude or a personal thank you for helping out.
If you think you have a "read" on me, your are daffy. I have no chicken lights. In fact I pull doubles in a company truck. I have owned my own but I found out this job was available and spent 8 months working on selling mine and getting the job. When I had my truck it was clean and well maintained, no chicken lights. I'm not perfect, but I do try to remember that the people around me have someone at home who loves them and I will not make their errand or trip any more stressful or dangerous.
I don't drive for anyone like JB Hunt. But I'd rather be passing JB than some wannabe trucker in an old beat-up poorly maintained truck that has some "new driver" that couldn't qualify to wash JB's rims.

I agree with most of your post. All but the last statement.
They aren't doing the job to keep this country alive. The are making a living. That is all. They aren't in a battleground fighting for their lives. It is a dangerous job. But it's not what your making it out to be.

my husband has driven an 18 wheler 37 years.. u people have no idea what your tt about when u say its only a job..u be on the highways 99.9% of the time and see people die.. not just truck drivers but people u come across in accidents.. and u offer your help.. not to mention when u come across wrecks that involves children.. it wears on your nerves.. and people in cars constantly cutting u off.. all day long.. u cant stop that rig on a dime.. but the driver has to be on his or her toes.. there has been many innocent truck drivers killed because dumb asses came head on into them out of no where.. and if u stop and think about it everything we touch or use everyday come on trucks.. where do u think your groceries and every other necessity comes from.. there delivered by truck drivers who have been up all night trying to get merchandise delivered on time.. then theres the family waiting at home.. praying nothing happens to him or her.. when i have a husband son and many more family members out there on the highways. dont tell me they are useless.. there oing a job.. ext time u have to use the b-room think about the truck driver that had to use road side parks.. or when u sit down to eat think about them tring to find something decent to eat on the road.. or when u lay down in your bed think about the driver trying to find a safe place to pull over and go to sleep away from home..

I respect anyone that works for a living no matter what kind of job they do, but all this crap about how regular motorists should just take crap off truckers who think they have more of a right to be on the road, is just THAT. CRAP. I agree that trucking is a vital industry but it does not give truckers the right to treat drivers of other vehicles as if they should just leap off the road when we see a truck coming. especially when its raining, snowing, sleeting etc and we're going a bit slower to avoid sliding. Do you truckers ever consider that when you pass a car when its raining or snowing that you create a cloud of mist that causes us to be temporarily blind??? This happens to me every time we have rain or snow and I'm driving so as to avoid ending up like the dozen or so SUV's and yes even semi's in the ditch. It never fails some trucker who just feels the desperate need to go one mile per hour faster than me has to pass me and cause me to totally lose sight of he road for sometimes several minutes. But what do they care? They think that because they deliver our groceries etc that they have a right to try to kill us. Bullshit!!!

Practice courtesy, if you are creeping along slowly, that is fine. When other traffic passes drop back behind them. Don't speed up, SLOW DOWN when other traffic is passing you. You should not be alongside trailer wheels for several minutes, unless you are speeding up. Be sure your washers are filled and working. If slop gets on your windshield, wash it off.

to GIVE ME A BREAK U R VERY CLUELESS.. TRY STAYING AWAY FROM THE big truck.. they have the right to pass.. when they do so there trying to get away from the peeps in cars driving at a snails pace.. wouldnt shouldnt happen on the interstate anyway.. stay to the right and let em go..

No one gives a damn how long your husband has driven a truck. No one gives a damn how many trucker friends you have. No one f*cking cares.

The fact of the matter is, EVERYONE, that includes you "can't-do-anything-wrong " truck drivers and you no-driving f*cking idiots everyone is forced to share the road with, could learn to be more courteous on the roads. The problems on the road are everyones fault. There's no such thing as a perfect driver. Period. Now shut the f*ck up about it.

Look, I have just as much a right to be on the road as anyone else. More than half of the time the trucks are speeding anyway. Why is it the people in cars are the only ones expected to be courteous?? I guess they should just be allowed to do whatever they want to anyone else according to you. Don't call me clueless because I adjust my driving to match the weather and road conditions. Truckers need to practice courtesy too. It's a two-way street.

I have just as much right to be on the road as anyone else. and if the weather conditions dictate that I slow down to avoid a crash, so what? More often then not the trucks are speeding anyway. There are two speed limits in case you didn't know. 55 for trucks and 65 for cars. Therefore thy only really have the right to pass anyone going slower than 55, and as far as you telling me to stay away from the trucks... where do you go when there are only two lanes? your comments make no sense. people in cars are not the only ones who should practice courtesy on the road. Some one who is breaking the law by speeding all the time has no right to tell me how I should be driving.
