Former Mgr in Cincinnati wrote: I was a mgr at Dcik's for 7 yrs. I remember when work was fun and you got to joke around and had plenty of associates to help customers, but then we got a new DM who was from All About Sports, a company that went belly up because of poor management. And of course he had to hire all his buddies at almost twice what the mgrs with 5 yrs were making. I have a mind and an opinion and he didn't like that. They eventual starting fu'ing with me enough with there 65 hr work weeks and only one assoc in a dept at a time, and above all I inherited some assoc that made almost what I did and they only had 1 or 2 yrs in but were buddy buddy with the former mgr, who got fired for not doing anything at work. My wife was a mgr there also she got run off by the DM for telling the store mgr that she felt sexually discriminated against twice that was when she got her warning letter then she told HR and they put her on an action plan. Which is just there way of getting rid of you. I only go to Dick's to see 1 or 2 old friends because the rest of them quit or got run off. I also put several employees thru college and for 1 of their papers they did a study of Dick's Sporting Goods the only way they can stay profitable is to keep opening stores. I know that the have cut their AA's to 20 hrs and have gotten rid of most of the full timers so they don't have to pay benefits. and are trying to take away the mgrs benefits. What a bunch of sorry bastards. All yeah look at the amount the "officers" were bying stock for in '06 not touching it and selling it the some day. They truely are just GREEDY AS HELL. I was just was hired as an AA and can't believe the amount of work they expect me to do in 4 hours a day. I have worked there a week and am all ready looking for employment elsewhere.

I think its funny for a FORMER manager of the company to gripe and state all these crazy fact about Dick's. Mgr's benifits havent been touched and unfortunately the AA position was cut for stores under 12mill. SO it wasnt all stores. And from what I here about the Cinci district they should prolly close most of those stores anyway. I enjoy these rant and raves from horrible employees and former employees.

I got hired and opened a brand new store for dicks this past year...loved everything about the opening process thought it was gonna be a good place to work, then we opened and all of our hours disappeared....then in february we have a meeting, the company gets rid of a manager and all full-time employees are cut to 30 hours...this is why you see that the entire staff is replaced each time your there...second good luck going in to a store after not being in one for a month and trying to find something, they LOVE moving everything around my store was set up the same for probably up to 2 weeks at a time...always always always had me moving things!needless to sayi quit after about 6 months

I was really used by Dicks. I went to another store(Golf Galaxy) for 12 days and was fired when I got back. They knew they were going to fire me right after I left. But waited until I got back. They had no one else to do the job. I really got used and abused. After reading postings here, I've decided to join lawsuit. Before I became a manager I worked off the clock all the time. As a lead I and other leads were given 50-60 hours of work and told to get it done in 40 or less. Managers knew we were working off clock and didn't care as long as projects were done. As for lunches. I worked through lunches all the time. The AA would still take the time out of pay. I could keep going, but will not.

I can attest to all of the complaints posted here. Most of the managers are a joke. They don't attempt to help customers at all. In some cases, the associates know more than they do, but because the have manager attached to their name, they act as if they are gods! The pay their associates between $7.25 to $8.00 per hour. The team leads and managers make way more. None of them have a clue as to what goes on. They love to brown nose whenever our district or loss prevention managers come in and pretend that everything is all perfect when it isn't. Don't get me wrong, my team lead is wonderful, but her boss is a complete idiot. I watch her bust her butt on daily basis and her boss gets all the credit. But please believe when something gets messed up, he blames it all on her. She has been with the company for quite a while and he has only been with company for a little over a year. She takes the heat for a lot of his stupid mistakes which wouldn't happen if he would just listen to her. He doesn't even listen to the store manager, but the store manager doesn't even see that. She expects my team lead to clean up behind the department manager. They treat customers like dirt and don't know the meaning of customer service. They climates in the building are out of sync. Employees and customers freeze in the winter and sweat to death in the summer. They push employees to get people to buy socks, extra items they don't need, warranties (protection plans that they won't honor) and sign people up for their 2 different credit cards that charge people high interest rates. They use people until they burn them out and then if they don't produce they write employees up. I work part time and am planning to quit soon. I hope that my team lead and the other good employees in the building all find better jobs, cause when they do, I know that customer service scores will really go down. None of the F.A.C.E. scores will be above 40% then!!!!

i have worked at dick's on and off for a number of years. i've been a part time assoc, a fulltime sales leader and a fulltime associate... all of the negative comments about the working environment are 100% on point. Tasking is constant and we're always moving things around. We also have to process freight and clean up the departments while providing customer service all at the same time. Everyone is underpaid and treated like garbage. Managers have to work 60 hour work weeks sometimes 6-7 days a week. The minimum for fulltime is 30 hours a week. Everyone from the managers on up claim that customer service is the number one priority yet tasking is by far the biggest time consumer. Department leads do most of the work but rarely ever get credit or promoted to manager unless they have been there for so long that their hourly wage puts a stranglehold on payroll. They expect cashiers to get a 70% scorecard every shift. Its not a fun place to work unless your in the golf dept or work in the backstock (early morning shifts get, done by no later than 3 and no weekends). if you're a customer don't take your frustrations out on employees... most of them are trying their best but are overwhelmed. There is very little training given because there is no time in payroll to do it. most of the questions you have can be answered by simply reading tags

Don't buy anything of value from Dick's. I bought a high-priced gun which they disassembled and packaged at the store. When I pulled it out of the box at home it was damaged. Salesman and store managers told me their policy was once it left the store it was the customers, period. Even though it was sold damaged I could not return it. So they have my money and I have to deal with the manufacturer myself to get their damaged merchandise fixed. Nice deal for them. Good thing I have other shopping choices.

i have been an employee at dicks for a few years now and i wouldnt recommend anyone working for this company! it is run so bad and most of/if not all managers at my store dont know sh%t! Very stressfull environment to work. I work front end and i get paid like crap and treated like crap! customers always coming in and complaining to me. but i got some info for you. its not our fault when we dont have an item or it scans wrong. dont yell at us! we do what were told. complain to corporate! and there wothless too! they tell us to get the store perfect because ED STACK (vice president) is coming but wont give more payroll to do so. He probably wont even come. and all our managers just sit in the office checking there emails. THATS BS!! getting paid $80,000 a year to check emails? ha! i know more about the store then they do. Finally i can say something without getting in trouble, lol

I would like to say that you all are correct. Please don't take it out on the associates. Dicks as a corporation sucks blood from a stone. We have to work with less and less payroll each year. That is why you can never find anyone to help you. Managers work nothing less than 55 hours a week (and that's required) and believe me the pay sucks. The DM'S have no problem cutting payroll until managers are forced to cover departments ALONE. Once again, please we're not a bunch of dumasses. Everybody there works their asses off! It's our greedy corporation who makes us fail and makes you mad. It's their fault that we have to put sale signs of things that aren't marked down! It's their fault you always have to wait in line everytime your there. Believe me I hate my job worse than you hate your experience shopping there.....ughh

Oh my God. My eye twitches everytime I go into work as well! what a coincidence. I have worked there since before black friday of last year. I was barely trained when I was hired (the week before black friday, OMG) and managed to hang on because i was so good at getting scorecards. I managed to learn the ropes gradually and they had me training their new people. Just when I start getting comfortable with my cashier job. A front end coordinator quits (without telling our lead because she's vindictive and would make the last weeks hell on you) So I was the best cashier and was promoted. With all the manager switches and vacations and sick leave that happened right after I was promoted I got pretty much no training ten as well. So when our lead came back from sick leave she got nothing but complaints about me from my equals who do the same thing I do. But I don't complain, because I'm not payed to complain. current employee wrote: It's good to read all these posts. I have worked at dicks for four years and it continues to go downhill. I have never called their ethics hotline or H.R. despite seeing so many ethics violations and descrimination in the store. Reason being is I have seen so many people lose their jobs shortly after reporting something. So much for our ethics hotline being anonymous. we currently have a manager who loves to yell at employees on the sales floor in front of customers and other associates. He recently yelled at someone over the intercom during store hours. That person is too scared to report it for fear of losing their job. The stress level is ridiculous there. When I first started there were actually knowledgeable workers who cared about customers and how the store was run. Now thats a small minority; the store is full of $8 an hour associates who know nothing and walk all over the policies without repercussions. I have to hold on til I find something else or get layed off. I just wish my eye would stop twitching every time I go to work.
